Ihsan the Academic Cat

In About Let's Adopt, Adoption Stories, Adoption stray, animal rescue on October 30, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Please say hi to Ihsan the academic cat. He is a 4.5-month kitten, and he was rescued as he was trying to enter the main library building on the Bilkent University campus in Ankara. Perhaps he had some reading to do we don’t know… We named him Ihsan, after the founder of Bilkent Univeristy Ihsan Dogramaci.

Ihsan is was very healthy boy. Our member who rescued him took him to a vet for a full health check, and Ihsan turned out to be perfect for adoption. He was immediately placed at a Let’s Adopt foster home in Ankara where he continued his academic activities. Ihsan’s foster mother was a Bilkent faculty member who continued his scholarly upbringing!

And true to his style, Ihsan’s permanent owner now is also an academic! Ihsan is now living a happy life with a post-graduate student in Ankara, and helping her finish up that thesis!

Melek the White Angel

In Adoption Stories, Adoption stray, animal rescue on October 23, 2008 at 8:06 am

Melek was found on the street in Kozyatagi on Sept. 5th. Her rescuer
was walking home from work on a hot day, and saw an extremely thin
kangal mix (Melek) staggering down the sidewalk. She was completely
emaciated and lost, obviously dropped by one of the criminal
municipalities in some random street. Melek had freshly shaved patches
on an inner thigh and on a front leg. She had been prepped for
surgery by the inept municipality veterinarian before they noticed she
was already spayed… so they dropped her like garbage.

In the first picture you can see the state in which she
was found.. Underweight, anemic and covered in fleas.

Thanks to Sharon’s amazing care Melek then completely adapted
to life at a home, including riding in cars and elevators, sitting
before being fed, and walking on a leash. The pictures say it all,
she is sweet, gentle and mellow.

After about 4 weeks in foster care, Melek was close to her ideal
weight, and her coat was healthy and shiny. She was ready to go to her
forever home.

And that forever home has been offered by Rebecca and Martin, and their 3 sweet boys. Melek is now a member of this beautiful family in Istanbul wishing that all her fellow rescue dogs will be as lucky as she has been.

Kaplancik:the little tiger

In Uncategorized on October 7, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Kaplancik was a 6 week old male kitten who was looking for his “forever
home.” Here we had a gorgeous little tiger!

Kaplancik had lost his mum when he was 4 weeks old, he was rescued, taken
to a vet for his shots and taken to a temporary foster home where he
learnt how to use a kitty toilet, take baths on the sink and sleep on
the pillows!!!!

He has also learnt to watch TV, loved football and
watched action movies and played high-risk games with his
toys. His favorite pastime was to sit on peoples laps and purr as well
as playing with the two dogs of the house he was being fostered at.

Kaplancik’s new life in his permanent home incorporates dogs as well.

Kaplancik now lives with Onur and Tuba, a young couple in Istanbul, and Mojo the dog. Mojo gave Kaplancik a warm welcome to the home, and they love playing with one another.

Chanel: Fashion Saved Her Life

In Uncategorized on October 1, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Chanel’s story is somewhat atypical amongst the vast array of cruel
realities we face daily here on Lets Adopt.

We didnt find Chanel abandoned in the forest, or in the highway, she
wasnt rescued from the hands of some brute maganda and no, she doesnt
come from Beykoz either.

Chanel was found when she was going through the metal detector at
Kanyon, Levent, Istanbul’s ultra-modern shopping mall.

It was pure luck.. as I was heading to a meeting I was struck by the
weird vision of a small Pomeranian-sized dog, cropped shaven, entering
the shopping mall, rushing through the metal detectors and running
towards the automatic stairs followed by a couple of security guards
screaming orders on their walkie-talkies. They were trying in vain to
catch her but she was too fast.. she went past the Harvey Nichols
security guard and entered one of the worlds most expensive department
store.

She passed through the perfum and make up section, past the mens
section and headed straight to the Womens designers area. She stopped
in front of the Chanel display and waited.

The security guards didnt know what to do.. luckily a handsome
Zegna-clad gentleman (me) was there to save the day.

I named her Chanel.

Chanel is a beautiful and sparkling Pomeranian mix, she has the little
mouse face, and the big bright eyes, the speed, the charm, the
playfulness… whomever is the idiot that decided to cut all her hair
with scissors desserves to have his penis chopped (but that is another
story).

Actually, Chanel ended up in a home where the are no penises to be chopped off! She lives with two nice ladies in Levent, Istanbul.

Her new family love traveling. They spend summers in the Aegean coast of Turkey, and travel all year round around the country. Chanel will get to travel with them, see new places, and maybe check out the fashion stores in some of the new places she will be seeing.

As for me, I will keep waiting in front of Harvey Nichols in Kanyon.

Just in case another Chanel drops by…
