Merhaba,

Dün, Türkiye’deki hayvan hakları hareketini ve  en önemlisi, barınakların işletilmesini tamamen değiştirmek üzere 10 gerekli maddeyi kapsayan bir giriş yapmıştık.

Durumu, düzgün bir şekilde ele alırken, hayati önem taşıyan iki konu var: Bunlar Kısırlaştırma ve Yerine Bırakma’nın doğru uygulanımı ve düşük maliyetli kısırlaştırmanın erişilebilirliği. Bu iki nokta, inanılmaz derecede önemli. Bu sebeple, serinin sonunda bu iki konunun her biri için ayrı bir yazı yayınlayacağız.

Fakat şimdilik, Devlet’in barınak yöneticileri ve gönüllülerine (eğer varlarsa) bir kaç sağlam öğüt vermeye odaklanacağız.

1. Kurtarma Grupları Sizin Arkadaşlarınız:

“İdeal” bir dünyada, Türkiye, sahip olduğu genç nüfus nüfusun büyüklüğü (nüfusumuzun %60′ı 30 yaşın altında) sayesinde hayvan kurtarma gruplarından oluşan geniş bir ağ kurabilir. “Kurtarma grubu” denildiğinde, tek bir amaç için toplanarak bir ağ oluşturmuş insanlar aklımıza geliyor, amaçları: Zor durumdaki hayvanları kurtarma ve onları yeniden yuvalandırma.

Türkiye’de belirttiğimiz gruplardan sadece bir kaç tane var. Sahip Çıkalım! bunlardan sadece biri. Bununla beraber, daha küçük gruplar halinde bir araya gelmiş harika insanlar da var, zor durumdaki bir hayvanı kurtarmak için ne pahasına olursa olsun gönüllü olan insanlar… Bu gruplar, rutin bir şekilde, barınaklara giderek, hayvanları kurtarmaya, tıbbi yardıma ihtiyacı olan, özürlü ve özel bakım isteyen hayvanlara yardım etmeye çalışıyorlar.  Sürekli olarak, bu gruplar, tıklım tebeş dolu olan barınaklara yardım etme isteklerinden vazgeçiriliyorlar, cesaretleri kırılıyor. Durum neden böyle? Bir hayvanın kurtarma grubuna aktarılması, az da olsa barınakta bir yerin açılmasını, yiyecek ve temizlik gibi masrafların azalmasını sağlar. Hatta, zaten az olan ve Türkiye’deki barınaklarda bir gelenek haline gelmiş olan tıbbi bakım eksikliğinin daha da aza indirgenmesine yardımcı olur.  Kurtarma ve yeniden yuvalandırma gruplarının oluşturulması ve hayvanların barınaklardan kurtarılmalarını desteklemek çok ama çok önemli, gelin bununla yüzleşelim. Kural olarak, kurtarma grupları, hayvanlara uygun yuvalar bulmada, aynı anda yüzlerce köpekle ilgilenmek zorunda olan barınak yöneticilerinden çok daha başarılılar. Koruma ve sahiplendirme kuralları her zaman çok daha iyi. Barınaklarının binlerce hayvanla ağzına kadar dolu oldugu bir ülkede, bir kurtarma grubu sorumluluk almaya ve hayvanları koruyup  kollamaya gönüllü ise, buna karşı çıkılmasını anlamam mümkün değil…

2.Geçici Evler:

Geçici aileler arasındaki iyi iletişimin korunarak geliştirilmesi, bir barınağın ağının sağlıklı bir şekilde işlemesinde ciddi önem teşkil eder. Bu olmadan, kurtarılabilecek canlar, ne yazık ki  sınırlı  kalacaktır. Let’s Adopt! “Geçici Evler” kavramını ortaya koyana ve bununla ilgili kendi ağını kurana dek, Türk toplumunun, bu işlevin öneminin farkında olmaması benim için büyük bir sürprizdi.  Biz, geçici evleri, hayat kurtarmak, sosyal ilişkileri geliştirmek, bir örgütün menzilini genişletmek, yaralı ve hasta ya da davranışsal  bozuklukları olan hayvanları tedavi etmede, kısacası can kurtarmada düük maliyetli bir yol olarak görüyoruz.

Her barınak örgütü, kendi geçici ev ağlarını geliştirmede büyük çaba sarfetmeli. Çünkü; bu durum, söz konusu örgütün barınak ortamında ayakta kalmayı başaramayan hayvanlara, hasta ya da yaralı olan veya insanlarla iletişime geçmeye, sosyalleşmeye ihtiyacı olan hayvanlara bakabilmesini sağlar.

Geçici evler, sürekli yuvalar bulunana kadar, hayvanları sağlıklı ve mutlu kılacak ortamları sağlarlar.

Tüm “hayvanseverler” ve barınak gönüllülerinin bunu anladığına eminim.

SHELTER REFORM… 2

Hi.. yesterday we provided an introduction to the 10 issues necessary to completely reform the animal welfare movement in Turkey, and most importantly, the way Turkish shelters are run.

There are two issues of extreme importance to the correct handling of the situation, that is the correct implementation of Neuter and Return and the availability of Low-Cost spay and neuter. Those two points are extremely important and we will dedicate one post for each right at the end of the series…

But for now we will continue focusing on giving some sound advice to the Nation’s shelter managers and their volunteers (if any).

1. Rescue Groups are your friends.

In an ideal world, Turkey, with its extremely young population (60% of the population below 30) would have developed a strong network of animal rescue groups. By rescue groups we would understand a group or network of people working with only a goal in mind: The rescue and re-homing of animals in need.
Turkey doesn’t have many of those groups, but there are a few. Let’s Adopt! is one of them, but there are out there smaller groups of amazing people, people willing to do whatever it takes to rescue an animal in need. Those groups routinely try to help shelters in getting animals out, animals with urgent medical needs, handicapped animals, animals in need of special medical care. Routinely those groups and turned away and discouraged from offering their help to overcrowded shelters. Why is that the case? The transfer of an animal to a rescue group would free up scarce space at the shelter, it would reduce expenses for feeding, cleaning, even reduce the need for the inadequate medical care that is the norm in most of those shelters.
Encouraging the creation of rehoming networks, of rescue groups, getting animals out of the shelters is very important and, lets face it, as a rule, Rescue Groups are far more successful at finding suitable homes for the animals than a shelter manager dealing with thousands of dogs ever would. The screening and adoption procedures will always be far better. In a country where shelters are filled to the brim with thousands of animals, if a rescue group is willing to take custody and care for an an animal I don’t see any reason why this should be denied.

2. Foster homes

The development of a good network of foster homes is crucial to the good functioning of a shelter network. Without it there is a severe limitation to how many lives can be saved. Much to my surprise, until Let’s Adopt! introduced the concept of foster homes and created its own network Turkish society was not aware of the importance of this
function. We have always seen fostering at a low cost way to save lives, improving public relations, extending the reach of an organization, rehabilitating sick and injured animals, or animals with behaviour problems, in short, saving lives.
Every shelter organization should make a BIG effort in developing its own network of foster homes as it allows the organization to take care of animals who cannot survive on a shelter environment, sick or injured animals, or dogs needed human contact and socialization.
Foster homes provide a great setting that keep animals healthy and happy whilst a final home is found.

I am sure all “animal lovers”, shelter volunteers out there understand this… so let me ask you all a few questions:

What efforts is your shelter making to increase its network of supporters?

How is the relationship of your shelters with Animal Rescue Groups?

What is the attitude of your shelter manager to the concept of foster homes?

Does she understand the concept and the need for such a network?

What efforts is the shelter making to educate visitors about the concept of foster homes?

How many foster homes does your organization has? How many of them are available right now?

Do you have a good home to take care of a handicapped animal? Do YOU foster on behalf of your shelter?

Do you dedicate an allocated time daily to educate people around you about rescuing?

Do you encourage your friends to adopt animals from the shelter?

Do any of your friends foster or help your organization?

Yes? No? If the answer is NO… Why not?

TÜRKİYE’DEKİ BARINAK SİSTEMİ ve SİSTEM DAHİLİNDEKİ BARINAKLAR NASIL İYİLEŞTİRİLİR?..

Türkiye’de, dört ayaklı dostlarımızın durumu maalesef dehşet verici. Ancak bu hafta, durumun ne kadar feci olduğundan bahsetmeyeceğim. Birilerinin foyasını meydana çıkarmak yerine (ki baştan söylemeliyim, birkaç kişinin başı ağrıyacak) çözüm önerileri ve görmekten bıkıp usandığımız sorunlardan kurtulma yolları üzerine odaklanacağım. Sahip Çıkalım! bu sorunları tek başına çözmeyecek, zaten bu mümkün de değil. Türkiye’deki barınakların işleyişi/idaresi konusunda direkt bir yaptırımımız olamaz. (Birkaç harika istisnayı saymazsak), barınakların çoğu, köpekler için, Naziler zamanında kurulan toplama kamplarından farksız. Bu barınakları yöneten kişiler, “hayvan severlik”lerini kaybetmiş ve her gün gördükleri bu manzara karşısında duyarsızlaşmışlardır. Sonuçta, “hayvanlardan sorumlu hayvan dostları” olmaktan çıkıp tıpkı 2500’den fazla hayvanı barındıran Yedikule Barınağı’nda olduğu gibi, birer “hayvan toplayıcısı”na dönüşmüşlerdir.

Türkiye’deki sokak hayvanları, diğer ülkelerdeki hayvanlara kıyasla daha şanslı: Ülkenin son derece katı bir “Öldürmeme” politikası var.

Ancak bu politika maalesef pek bir anlam ifade etmiyor. Yasa, her ne kadar yerel belediyeleri “hayvanları kısırlaştırma ve alındıkları yere gönderme” yönünde kendi stratejilerini geliştirmeleri konusunda yükümlü kılsa ve barınakların görevleri arasında kendi sahiplendirme programlarını oluşturma bulunsa da, gerçek bunun tam tersi: Yerel belediyeler, nadiren uygulanan bu yasayı görmezden gelirken, barınaklara “kazık çakmış hayvan dostları” da hayvanları zincire vurmanın doğru yol olduğuna inanmakta ısrar ediyorlar.

Türkiye’deki barınak sistemini iyileştirmek ve barınakların sorunlarını çözebilmek için her şeyden önce bu durumu düzeltmeyi ve fark yaratmayı istememiz gerek. Boş laflar ve asla tutulmayacak balon sözler işe yaramaz.

Bir sonraki aşama bütün bu hayatları kurtaracak bir altyapı oluşturmayı, bir strateji geliştirip ona bağlı kalmayı, hayat kurtaracak bir plan yapmayı ve her yönüyle başarı ve kayıpları hesaplamayı içeriyor. Kurallar konmalı ve gönüllüler, Türkiye’deki “sahiplendirme” meselesiyle ilgili konuları olduğu kadar hayvanların temel ihtiyaçlarını da anlayabilmek için öncelikle kendilerini eğitmeliler. Ancak kurallar aynı zamanda esneklik de sağlar, sağlamalıdır. Öyle ki, Türkiye’deki barınak yöneticilerinin büyük bir kısmı, hayvanlar konusunda yollarını kaybetmiş ve 21. yüzyıl Türkiye’sinin gerçekleriyle asla bağdaşmayan barınak kurallarına körü körüne saplanmışlardır.

Çok sevdiğim köpeğim Simba’nın ölümünün ardından, bir hayvan sahiplenmek için Gürpınar Barınağı’yla görüştüm. Ancak, bütün şaşkınlığıma rağmen, ben “uygun” bir sahip adayı değildim. Çünkü:

1. Bir yabancıydım.
2. Kendi adıma kayıtlı bir elektrik faturam yoktu.

Adı geçen barınağın yöneticisi, benim bütün hayatımı köpeklerle geçirdiğim ve yeni bir hayvan sahiplenmek istediğim o anda dahi evimde dünya nüfusunun % 99’undan çok daha iyi koşullarda yaşayan iki köpeğim olduğu gerçekleriyle kesinlikle ilgilenmemişti. Gürpınar Barınağı yöneticisi bayan, sadece benim milliyetimle, yani Türk olmamamla ilgilendi. Onun sınırlı bakış açısı ve anlayışına göre ben güvenilir biri değildim. Ona göre, barınaktaki bir köpeği bana vermektense, hayvanı zincire bağlı, işkence ve yoksunluk dolu bir hayata mahkûm etmek çok daha makuldü.

Birçok barınak, değişim/yenilik ve ileri görüş eksikliği kurbanı. Bu eksikliklerin bedelini, bu yazıda örneğini okuduğunuz türde barınaklarda yaşayan hayvanlar, harcanan hayatlarıyla ödüyor.

Barınak yöneticilerinin kontrolleri altında kaç bin hayvan yaşarsa yaşasın, her hayvan ayrı bir can, ayrı bir değerdir: Bütün hayvanların duyguları vardır. Ve bütün hayvanlar yanlarına bir dost ararlar, bunun için çırpınırlar. İnanın, hiçbir hayvan, hayvan sever olduğunu iddia ettiği halde, barınaktaki dört ayakları dostlarımızın durumlarını iyileştirme konusunda parmağını bile kıpırdatmayan biri tarafından boynuna geçirilen zincirle yaşamak istemez.

Living in chains

Kontrolleri altında yaşayan hayvanları bulundukları durumdan kurtarabilmek için barınak yöneticileri, halkı heyecanlandırmalı. İnsanları harekete geçirip yapılacak işler konusunda hazır hale getirmeli. İnsanlar, barınakta geçirecekleri zamanın, barınaktaki hayvanların hayatlarında kalıcı farklar yaratacağına inanmalı. Mevcut yapı ve zihniyet devam ettiği sürece, Sahip Çıkalım! İstanbul’daki hiçbir büyük barınakla işbirliği yapamaz: Yedikule, Bahçeşehir, Gürpınar, Ataşehir, Bakırköy, Üsküdar ve diğerleri… Liste uzayıp gidiyor… Ancak benim yapabileceğim, BİZİM yapabileceğimiz şudur: Halkı ve insanları (hayvanlar için) daha iyi bir yol ve hayat olduğu konusunda eğitebiliriz.

Uzun lafın kısası, bu haftanın yazıları özellikle barınak gönüllüleri ve yöneticilerine yönelik olacak. Sahip Çıkalım!’a kulak verin. Çerçevenin dışına çıkıp ufkunuzu genişletin. Halka ulaşın ve her şeyi “yeni ve farklı bir yol” ile yapın, çünkü bugüne kadar izlediğiniz yol ve yaptıklarınız sizi hiçbir yere götürmedi. Götürmediği gibi, korumayı amaçladığınız hayvanların kelimelere dökül(e)meyen acılar çekmesine sebep oldu…

Is that a life?

HOW TO REFORM THE CURRENT SHELTER SYSTEM IN TURKEY

The situation of companion animals in Turkey is appalling. But during this week I will not be focusing on how disastrous the situation is.
Instead of pointing fingers (and yes, I am sorry but there will be some of that as well) I will focus on showing solutions and steps to be taken to solve to the problems we are all so tired of seeing.
Let’s Adopt! will not be solving those problems on its own, it could never possibly do that. We cannot have a direct impact on the way Turkish animal shelters are run. In their vast majority (couple of wonderful exceptions), those shelters are massive concentration camps for dogs run by shelter managers, “animal lovers” who lost their way and who, through sheer daily exposure and desensitization have progressively become nothing more than animal hoarders and as in the case of Yedikule are happy running camps with over 2.500 animals.

Turkey’s animals have one advantage over stray animals in other countries. The Country has a strict No-Kill policy.

This doesnt’ mean much unfortunately. Whilst the law requests to the local municipalities the implementation of their own programs of Neuter and Return and demands of shelters to establish their own adoption programs the reality is quite the opposite, local governments ignore the law who is seldom applicable, and “animal lovers” entrenched in animal shelters continue believing that keeping dogs in chains is the right way to go.

To solve the shelter situation in Turkey we must first commit to wanting to improve the situation and make a difference. Empty words and vague compromises will not do. The next step involves in putting together the structure to save all those lives, to act following a strategy, a lifesaving plan, measuring success and failures. Rules must be put in place and volonteers must educate themselves first in order to ensure that they understand the real needs of the animals as well as the issues particular to rehoming in Turkey. But rules also allow, and certainly requires, flexibility. The vast majority of shelter managers in this country have completely lost their way and become too rigid with shelter rules who dont correspond with the realities of the XXI century Turkey.

After the death of my beloved dog, Simba, I contacted the Gurpinar shelter to adopt an animal. To my surprise I was not considered eligible because:

a) I was a foreigner.

b) I did not have an electricity bill on my name.

It never mattered to that particular shelter manager that I had dogs all my life, and that at the time I had two dogs living with me in better conditions that 99% of the world’s population. The manager of the Gurpinar shelter could only see that I was not Turkish, hence, in her limited vision and horizons, not to be trusted. To her it was more acceptable to keep the poor animal locked on chains, living a life of torture and deprivation for life.

Too many shelters suffer from lack of innovation and vision and the direct result is lives being wasted away in shelter like the ones you are seeing in this post

No matter how many thousands of animals live under the control of those shelter managers, each and every animal is a precious life, they all have feelings, they all crave to be with a pack, a human pack and believe me, none of them wishes to spend a single more minute tied to a chain put around his neck by someone claiming to be an animal lover but completely lacking any intentions to improve the lives of those animals.

In order to be able to provide an exit strategy for the animals under their control, shelter managers need to get the community excited, to inspire people and to get them ready for the task at hand, to make them believe that the time spent in that shelter will make a permanent difference in the lives of those animals. Under their current structure/mindset Let’s Adopt could never agree to work with the management of any of the major Istanbul shelters, Yedikule, Bahcesehir, Gurpinar, Atasehir, Bakirkoy, Uskudar… the list is endless.. but what I can do, what WE can do, is to educate society and to educate those people that there is a better way.

Listen to what Let’s Adopt has got to say, think outside the box, reach out to the community and do things differently because what you’ve been doing so far has got you nowhere and has caused untold suffering to the animals you intended to protect…

Yapmaya değer her şey imkânsız gözükür… Ama başkalarına…

Sahip Çıkalım! Türkiye’deki “hayvan refahı” konusunu yeniden ele alıyor, baştan yaratıyor. Bu işi üstlendik çünkü kabul etmeliyiz ki, Türkiye’de hayvanların refahından sorumlu olan kesim, yönünü ve amacını kaybetmiş durumda.

Sizi, çevrenizdeki nesneleri yeniden şekillendirmeye, değiştirmeye davet ediyoruz. Hiçbir şey şu anda olduğu şekilde olmak zorunda değil. Korktuğunuz ya da başarıp başaramayacağınızdan emin olmadığınız için bir adım atmazsanız, atmıyorsanız, bu ülkenin hayvanlarının sonu ne olur?..

Birlikte yapabileceklerimizin bir sınırı yok. Peki, ya birlik olmazsak?.. O zaman hayatınızın geri kalanını öldürülen, katledilen hayvanların(ızın) arkasından ağlayarak ya da hayvan severliklerini yitirip bakmakla yükümlü oldukları köpekleri toplama kampı gardiyanları gibi ezen kişilerce yönetilen rezil bir barınaktan diğerine giderek geçirirsiniz.

Bir gün, bütün bu barınaklar geçmişte kalacak. Bir gün, yakın bir gelecekte, bütün bu “hayvan severler” -köpekleri hayattan koparıp zincire vuran, yüzlercesini bir odaya hapsedip hastalıktan öldüren ve/veya “doğal ayıklanma/seleksiyon” adı altında hayvanları ormana yani açlığa ve ölüme terk eden bu hayvan severler- kendilerine bakıp şöyle diyecekler:

Ne düşünüyorduk?..

Everything worth doing seems impossible. To other people….

Let’s Adopt! is reinventing animal welfare in Turkey. We took up this mission upon ourselves because, let’s face it, the animal welfare community has lost direction.

We invite you to re-image, to change things around you. Things dont have to be the way they are. If you dont start something because you are afraid or because you dont know if its going to work what will be of the animals of this country?

"Animal Lovers" .. Chained animals.

There are no limits to what, together, we can do. What is the alternative? Spending the rest of your life crying at seeing your animals killed, or going from one shitty shelter to another one, all of them run by animal lovers who, simply, lost their way and became guards in massive concentration camps for dogs.

One day, all those shelters will be a thing of the past. One day, not too far away, all those “animal lovers” who did nothing but chaining dogs from life, or dump them in a room with hundreds of others to die of disease, or to dump them in the forest to survive (or die) according to “natural selection”, one day all those “animal lovers” will look at themselves in shame and think:

What did WE do?

What were WE thinking?

Tekerlekli Melek Coco

Coco’yu bir veteriner kliniğinin bahçesinde, sessizce bir köşede otururken bulduk. Yanına yaklaşıp tanışmak isteyinceye ve belden
aşağısının felçli olduğunu anlayıncaya kadar herşey normal gibi görünüyordu. Onu “kurtaran” hekim röntgen cihazı olmadığı ve ne
yapacağını bilemediği için Coco’yu bahçenin bir köşesinde, gözlerindeki hüzünlü bakışla kendi kendine iyileşmeye veya sessizce
ölmeye terk etmişti.

Dün bebeği bakımımıza almayı başardık. Kendi hekimimize gittik, kucağımızda Coco, ilk insan temasını hissediyor ve güzelce
masajlanıyordu. Röntgenler gösterdi ki Coco’nun problemi ameliyat ve ardından fizik terapiyle iyileşebilirdi. Ama çok geç kalmıştık ve elimizdeki imkanlar Coco’nun yürümesine yetmiyor.

Ancak, bir umut, Londra’da Dr Noel Fitzpatrick veya ABD’deki bazı müthiş doktorlar belki bir çözüm bulabilirler ama şimdilik Coco
tekerlekli sandalyesinde hayatına devam edecek.

Bu hafta sonuna kadar son derece özel bir arkadaşımız tarafından özel bir tekerlekli sandalye yapılacak Coco’ya. nasıl bakılacağını bilmeliler. İkinci olarak dünya kadar büyük bir kalpleri olmalı çünkü Coco’nun bakımı hem çok sabırlı olmayı hem de hayata gülerek bakabilmeyi gerektirecek. Ve son olarak, tum bunları sadece ruhlarının iyiliğinden yapacaklar.

Angel on Wheels – Coco

We found Coco sitting quietly in the corner of the garden of a veterinary clinic. All seemed okay until I approached the baby to meet her and found out that she was paralysed waist down. The vet who “rescued” her had no x-ray machine and no clue about what to do so he left Coco in the corner of the garden for a month, waiting for her to “miraculously” to recover on her own, or die away quietly, with that sad look in her little face.

Yesterday I managed to take that baby in our care. We drove to our vet, Coco in our arms experiencing her first real human contact and a great massage. The x-rays showed us that her injury could very well be healed through surgery and following physical therapy. But we are far too late and our knowledge and conditions here will not allow us to make her walk.

I have no doubt Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick in London or any of the wonderful doctors in the US or Germany could solve this case but for now Coco will be wheelchair bound.

A special rolling chair will be built before the weekend by a very special friend. We will use all our international contacts to fly Coco wherever necessary and to restore the mobility of her lower extremities and give her the quality of life she so deserves.

We need a foster home for Coco now. But the people there need to be of a very very special kind. First, they should know how to handle a dog with special needs and special care. Second, they should have a heart as big as the world because Coco will require much patience and good humor to deal with. And third, they’ll have to do all of this out of the kindness of their souls.

Coco is a beautiful female baby, and she is extremely calm and quiet. Her vaccinations and deparasitation have been completed.

Son zamanlarda yaşadıklarımızı takip edenler ülkemizde kanunları uygulamakla yükümlü olan mercilerin kanunları nasıl pek çok defa hiçe saydıklarını biliyorlar.

Fatih Camiinin kedicikleri yok edilişi, Bahçeşehir Barınağı’nda boğularak ölen 135 hayvan, 23 Nisan 2009 Kaş‘ta alınan masum canlar ve daha bir çok kendini beğenmiş zulüm örneği.

Tüm bunlar  bizi, gönüllü avukatlar, hukuk danışmanları, hukuk öğrenci ve stajyerleriyle bir araya gelerek bir Hukuk Konseyi kurmaya yöneltti.

Sizin profesyonel bakış açınıza ihtiyacımız var. Sizden dilekçelerimizi hazırlamanızı,  hukuk dışı hareket etmeleri durumunda,
yetkili makamları, özel kişileri, şirketleri ve hatta gerekirse hükümetleri mahkemeye vermenizi istiyoruz. Bize neler yasaldır, neler

Dear Friends,

Those who have been following the recent events will know that in our country the laws are broken in many ways than one and by those who are there to implement them.

The loss of Fatih Mosques kittens, the drowning of 135 animals in Bahçeşehir, the massacre of innocent lives in Kaş on the 23rd April
2009 and so many more other lawless acts of cruel arrogance…

All of this has prompted us to set up a legal council of voluntary lawyers and law consultants, law students and interns.

We need your help to give us your professional opinions. We need your help to write petitions to take authorities and individuals as well as companies and if necessary governments to court if and when they operate outside the law. We need you to tell us what is within the law and what is against it.

We are a group of people who respect law. We act within the boundaries of law whichever country we operate in. That is why we need your help, wherever you are USA, Canada, England, Spain, Germany, South Africa, Italy… Join us and teach us how to protect the animals we fight so hard to save.

We are waiting for you to join an amazing group of people who are as passionate about the law as they are for animals.

Sahip Çıkalım! Sayıların Önemi… – Let’s Adopt!… the importance of numbers

Sahip Çıkalım! Sayıların Önemi…

Geçen hafta Sahip Çıkalım!’ın işleyişiyle ilgili farklı bir yöntem izlemeye karar verdim. Sahip Çıkalım tek tek sahiplendirmelerden
uzaklaşıp Türkiye’deki geniş hayvansever topluluğunun eğitimine (evet, eğitime!) odaklanacak. Hayvanları kurtarmaya ve sahiplendirmeye devam edeceğiz ancak farklı bir biçimde.

Bunları yazdığımda politikamızın değişme nedenlerini anlamayan ya da anlamak istemeyen kişiler tarafından reddedileceğimi, hatta taciz ve nefretle karşılaşacağımı biliyordum.

Sonuçta Sahip Çıkalım 212 üye kaybetti.

Sahip Çıkalım!, son 48 saat içinde 306 yeni üye kazandı. Bu üyelerin çoğu Kaş Köpekleri konusunu pro-aktif bir şekilde ele aldığımızı
gördükten sonra katıldılar aramıza. Bunun ötesinde, sahipsiz hayvanlar konusunu CHP tarafından kontrol edilen belediyelerde tamamen farklı bir şekilde ele almanın yolunu açmış olduk.

Ayrılanlar olması da mutluluk verici aslında. Bunun anlamı Sahip Çıkalım!’ın politikalarını, bizimle yürüyecek ve heyecan verici bir
gelecekte yaptıklarımıza katılacak insanlar için daha iyi belirliyor olmamız. Bu, grubun kendi kendini belirlediğinin, ve aynı fikirde olan insanların yaptıklarımıza katılıyor ve katılacak olduklarının bir göstergesi.

Sahip Çıkalım! rakamlardan ibaret değil. Eğer ayrımsız büyümeye odaklanacak olursak asıl konuyu göz ardı etmiş oluruz. Tek başına
büyümenin bir önemi olamaz. Değer getiren büyüme anlamlı olur.

İletişimimizi topluluğumuzla izdüşümlü olarak yönetmek bugün Sahip Çıkalım!’ı sahip Çıkalım! yapan şeydir.

Let’s Adopt!… the importance of numbers

Last week I took a different approach to the way Let’s Adopt! will work from now. Let’s Adopt! will stop focusing on individual rehoming
cases to focus on educating (yes, educating!) the broader community of animal lovers in Turkey. We will continue rehoming and saving animals, but it will be done in a different way.

I knew when I wrote it that I would encounter rejection, even hatred and abuse, from people that simply, wouldn’t understand, or wish to understand the reasons for this change of policy.

As a result Let’s Adopt lost 212 members.

Let’s Adopt! has also gained 306 people in the last 48 hours, most of them have join us after seeing the way we handled proactively the case of the Kas Dogs.

Through a smart approach and the combined involvement of thousands of our members we averted a massacre from happening. Furthermore we have just opened the way for a completely new way to handle the stray dog situation in CHP controlled municipalities.

I’m SO happy for all those people to have opted out. What this means is that I am better defining Let’s Adopt policies to appeal to the
people who will follow us and get involved in our work in the exciting future. It means that the group is self-defining, and that the people who are getting involved in our work are completely in-tune with our mindset.

Let’s Adopt! is not only about numbers. If we only focus on indiscriminate growth we will be missing the point. Growth alone isn’t
important. Valuable growh is what matters. Getting our communications completely in line with our desired community is what make Let’s Adopt what it is today.

İzmir’den Seattle’a, Simba’nın İnanılmaz Maceraları – The Adventures of Simba in Seattle

Bu muhteşem bebeğin nerede doğduğunu bilmiyoruz ama bildiğimiz onu İzmir’de bir barınakta hareketsiz bulduğumuz. Çok hastaydı, yüksek ateşi vardı… gözleri yoktu.

Bebek, 5 yaşındaki gönüllümüz Yağmur tarafından kurtarıldı ve birkaç gün İdil’de kaldıktan sonra İstanbul’a uçtu.

İstanbul’da benim tarafımdan karşılandı ve sonraki ayları geçirmek, güçlenmek, diğer köpeklerle sosyalleşmek ve ev yaşamını öğrenmek üzere olağanüstü geçici evlerimizden birine götürüldü.

Bebeğimiz çiğ et ve kemik diyetine girdi. Sağlıklı büyümek için enerjiye ihtiyacı olacaktı.

Bizden daha önce bir köpek sahiplenmiş Almanya’dan bir emekli hanım (bu resimde maske takıyor çünkü çok utangaç) Simba’ya aşık oldu ve bizden onu da sahiplenmek için izin istedi. Önce kabul ettik ancak daha sonra, bu hanımın kör köpeklerle ilgili deneyimi olmasına rağmen, uygun olmayacağına karar verdik.

Onun yerine Simba’yı Seattle, ABD’de yaşayan Melissa’ya sahiplendirmeye karar verdik. Melissa “gerçek” bir hayvansever.
Özellikle Türkiye’de sahiplenilme şansı olmayan bir köpeği sahiplenmek istemişti. Engelli hayvanlar istenilmiyor Türkiye’de. Gördüğümüz kadarıyla hayvanseverlerin şefkati bile ancak bir yere kadar.

Grubumuz sayesinde Simba’yı dosdoğru Seattle’a götürüp yeni ailesine teslim edecek bir uçuş gönüllüsü bulduk. Simba ve Danya çok iyi arkadaş oldular ve harika bir uçuş yaptılar.
Seattle’da Melissa ve ailesi Simba’nın gelişini heyecanla bekliyorlardı. Danya ve Simba Atlantik üzerinde şampanyalarını
yudumlarken Melissa ve Paco, Melissa’nın Punk terrieri heyecandan uyuyamadılar.

Arrested

Geldiğinde Simba üzerinde hiç para olmadığını farketti ve yoldaki bir bakkalı soymaya karar verdi. Yakalanıp gözaltına alındı ancak Şerif Jones ona aşık olup afetti. Simba’nın cepleri olmadığından kanıt da bulunamamıştı zaten.

Simba in Izmir

We dont know much about where this gorgeous puppy was born, but we know we spotted her at a shelter in Izmir, barely moving. She was very sick, had a high fever… she had no eyes.

The puppy was rescued by our 5 year old volunteer Yagmur and after a few days staying with Idil she was flown to Istanbul.

In Istanbul she was picked up by me at the airport and taken directly to one of our amazing foster families, where she would be spending the following months, getting stronger, socializing with other dogs and learning to live in a home.

Simba was put on a RAW diet, raw meaty bones. She would need the extra energy to grow strong and healthy.

Simba made lots of friends in Istanbul. Everyone loved this little puppy. Soft but tough, determined, playful… she was born blind but that was no obstacle for her to see the light of love.

A retired lady from Germany who had adopted a dog from us previously (she wears the V mask because she is very shy) fell in love with Simba and asked us permission to adopt her.. We agreed at first but after a few weeks we decided that the lady, although she had
experience with blind animals would not be suitable.

Instead we decided to give her to Melissa, living in Seattle, US. Melissa is a  “real” animal lover, she had specifically requested she wanted to adopt an animal that stood no change for adoption in Turkey.
Handicapped animals are not wanted in Turkey, it seems that compassion extends only so far amongst animal lovers here.

Through our network we organized a flight volunteer to fly Simba straight to Seattle and deliver her to the adoptant family. Simba and Danya became great friends and had a wonderful flight together.

In Seattle Melissa and her family were waiting excited for Simba’s arrival. Whilst Simba and Danya were sipping champagne over the
Atlantic, Melissa and Paco, her Punk Terrier couldn’t sleep with all the excitement.

Upon arrival Simba realized she had no money so she decided to rob a drugstore. She was arrested and taken into custody but Sheriff Jones fell in love with her and decided to forgive her. As Simba had no pockets they couldn’t find any evidence either.

Son derece katı kuralları olan, hayvanları kurtarmak için her gün ve her dakika bu kadar uğraşan Sahip Çıkalım! neden kurtardıklarını laboratuvarlara veya Çin Lokantalarına göndersin?

Laboratuvarlar ve Çin lokantaları birer efsane. Bilinmeyene karşı duydukları korku içinde yaşamayı tercih eden “hayvanseverler”in kendi kendilerine uydurduğu gülünesi bir efsane. Gülümser gibi bir kediyi sahiplenecek birilerinin olamayacağına inanan insanlar bunlar. Bu “hayvanseverler” sahiplenmiyor, o halde neden bir yabancı sahiplensin? Hayvanların yurt dışında sahiplendirilmesi konusu, sokak hayvanı sorununa çözüm getirmesi ve içerdiği riskler bağlamında tartışılmaktadır. RSPCA’nin çalıştığı 30’u aşkın Avrupa ülkesinin birçoğunda, köpek nüfüsunun sahiplenme kapasitesinden çok yüksek olması deneniyle, sokak hayvanı sorunu yaşanmaktadır. Tabii ki, bütün köpeklerin kendi ülkelerinde sahiplendirilebilmeleri tercih edilir. Günümüzde birçok ülkede bu mümkün değildir. Bu nedenle birçok organizasyon, köpekleri Turkiye, Ispanya ve Yunanistan’dan Hollanda gibi ülkelere göndererek sahiplendirmek için güzel bir sistem kurmuştur. Köpeklerin çok fazla olduğu ülkelerden çok az olduğu ülkelere gönderildiği bu sistem iyi çalışmaktadır. Başta sahiplendirilen köpekler olmak üzere herkes mutludur.

Bu ulaşım çok iyi denetlenmektedir. Avrupa yasaları sahiplendirilen köpeklerin kayıt altına alınmasını ve iyi kosullarda seyahat etmelerini kontrol etmektedir. Birçok hava yolu bu seyahati yaptirmaktan memnundur. Bu ülkelerdeki hayvan korumacı gruplar köpeklerin biran önce yeni evlerine varmalarına özen gösterdiği gibi, sahiplendirme sonrasında da köpeğin uyum gösterip göstermediğini yakından izlemektedirler.

Sokak köpeklerinin diğer ülkelerdeki laboratuvarlara gönderildiğine dair dedikodular RSPCA’nın da kulağına gelmiştir. Sokak hayvanlarının laboratuvarlarda kullanılması illegal olduğu gibi pratik olarak da mümkün değildir. Laboratuvarların sağlıklı köpeklere ihtiyaçları vardır ve bu nedenle kendi köpeklerini kendileri üretmektedirler. Başka ülkelerden gelecek köpeklere ne ihtiyaçları vardır ne de bunu isterler. Ne yazık ki kulaktan kulağa yayılan bu dedikodu birçok hayvanın başka bir ülkede güzel bir hayata kavuşmasını engellemiştir. Hangisini tercih ederdiniz: bir Turk köpeğinin Hollanda’da sevgi dolu bir evde daha iyi bir hayat yaşamasını mı, yoksa iyi bir eve kavuşma ihtimalinin çok düşük olduğu Türkiye’de kalmasını mı?

Yazdığınız yorumları tek tek okudum. En yakınımdaki gönüllülerle paylaştım. Bazılarınız için bir köpeğin uçağa binip bir başka ülkeye gidiyor olması bazılarınız için düşünülmesi bile imkansız birşeyken bizim görevimiz eğitmek ve örnek olmak.
İki yıl önce insanlar bana Türkiye’de sahiplendirme yapmayı denemenin bile yanlış olduğunu söylediler. Yapamazsın, olmaz dediler. Buna katılmadım ve hayatımın son iki yılını bu ağa ve sizlerle güçlü ilişkiler kurmaya adadım. Ancak öyle bir noktaya geldik ki kimse sahiplenmiyor. İnsanlara geçici aile olmaları için yalvarıyoruz, geçici aileler hayvanlarını iade ediyor, pansiyonlarımız dolu,
hesaplar kabarıyor ve sadece birkaçınız yardımcı oluyor.

Hayvanlarımızı ASLA pislik içindeki barınaklara bırakmayacağımızdan başka yerlerde aileler bulmak zorundayız.

Tabii hala sizlerden bir köpeğimizi sahiplenmenizi bekliyoruz ama kimse yazmıyor. Aldığımız tüm mektuplar (sadece bu sabah 50 tane) hayvanını terk etmek isteyen ve kurtardığı hayvanla ne yapacağını bilemeyen insanlara ait.

Bizimle yakından çalışanlar neden bahsettiğimi biliyorlar ve ikna edilmelerine gerek yok. Sizlere, çok yakınımızdaki üyelere yazıyorum bunları. Yardımınıza ihtiyacım var. Gidip kendi arkadaşlarınızla konuşun, her gün, yorulmadan, insanlarla birebir konuşun ve gruba davet edin. Onlara kişiye özel davetiyeler gönderip katılmalarını söyleyin. Ertesi gün beş kişiyle daha konuşun. Her gün, her yıl.
Ağımızı genişletin. Hep beraber, bir buçuk yılda bu grubu 2 kişiden 22 bin kişiye getirdik. Sizden grubumuzu hem ulusal hem de uluslararası anlamda büyütmenizi istiyorum.

I believe...

As one of our friends put it..  it seems that I rocked the place with my post yesterday night!

The comments on yesterday post speak for themselves. It is like an encyclopedia of paranoia and fear and it says much more about those people who comment that it would ever say about us.

Why Let’s Adopt!, a group that has rules so stringent, that works so hard to save animals every single day, around the clock, would send its rescues to laboratories or Chinese Restaurants?

What is wrong with all of you? Have you all lost your senses?

The laboratory and Chinese restaurant myth is just that, a myth, a ridiculous story fabricated by “animal lovers” who simply, decided to live in fear of the unknown. People who simply cannot believe there are people out there willing to adopt a cat like Gulumser. Those “animal lovers” will not adopt the animal, so why would a foreign person do so?

Here I am attaching a letter from David Bowles, at the RSPCA, explaining all you that the laboratory myth is just that, a myth. If you cannot believe the RSPCA on this issue then you may as well kiss your dogs goodbye and jump out of the balcony.

I have read all your comments on the post, I have discussed with my closest volunteers. Whilst I understand that it is a terrible feeling for some of you to even think of the possibility of a dog boarding a plane towards a foreign country it is our duty to educate and lead the way by example.

Two years ago people told me not to even try to rehome in Turkey. It wouldn’t work they said.. I disagreed and dedicated two years of my life to build this wonderful network and to foster relationships amongst all of you. But we have reached a point where there are no adoptions. We beg people to foster, fosters are returning, our pensions are full, bills are mounting and very few of you are helping.
So, as we will NEVER drop our rescues in a putrid shelter we have no other option that to look for families elsewhere.

We are of course waiting to hear from you if you want to adopt one of our dogs, but nobody is writing. The only letters we receive (over 50 this morning alone) are from people who want to get rid of their animals, or rescuers who dont know what to do and want us to take their animals.

Those of you who work closely with us know what I am talking about and need no convincing. To you, our closest members is that I am writing this message. I need your help. I need you to go out there and talk to your network, everyday, tirelessly, have one on one conversations with people, individually, invite them to our group, send them personal invites asking them to get involved, and do the same the next day with five different people. Everyday, year after year. Make the network grow. Together we have made this group go from 2 people a year and a half ago to over 22.000 people today. I need you to continue helping the group grow, both here and internationally.

Please help me.

Sahiplendirme Politikasında Değişiklik – Change in Let’s Adopt! rehoming strategy

Sevgili Dostlar,
Sahip Çıkalım! son iki senedir, bitmez tükenmez bir gayretle üyelerini hayvan sahiplenme, kısırlaştırma ve hayvanlarla ilgili diğer konularda eğitmeye çalıştı.
Son iki senedir, hem Türkiye’de hem de yurt dışında, daha önce örneği görülmemiş, eşi benzeri olmayan bir bağlantılar ağı, her sorunu çözecek ilişkiler kurmaktayız. Bu süreç içinde, üyelerimizin inancı ve güvenini kazandık.
Ancak yine de başaramadığımız hissine kapılıyoruz.
İnsanlara en can alıcı kısmı anlatmayı başaramadık: SORUMLULUK

Başarısızlık riskini minimuma indirebilmek için Türkiye’de var olan en ağır sahiplenme kurallarını getirdik: Sahip Çıkalım! evinizde bir hayvan beslemediğiniz takdirde size bir başkasını vermeyecek. Sahip Çıkalım! hiçbir hayvanı bahçede ya da fabrika türü bir yerde bakılmak üzere sahiplendirmeyecek. Bu kurallar bizler için son derece iyi işlese de aslında kurtarabileceğimiz hayvan sayısını kısıtladı. Ancak bu kısıtlamaya rağmen, neredeyse % 100’e yakın bir başarı oranını da garantiledi.
Sorunlar beklentilerle başladı. Gerçek şu ki, son derece sert olan söylemimizin altında, aslında bizler oldukça yumuşak kalpli insanlarız ve bu nedenle, daha koyduğumuz ilk kural üzerinden beklentiye girdik… Hayvan sahiplenmek istediği sırada evinde herhangi bir hayvan beslemeyen “hayvan sever”lerin sözlerine inandık, bu insanların ne hayvanları ne de bizleri hayal kırıklığına uğratmayacaklarını düşündük.

Bu tür sahiplendirmelerin çoğu başarısızlıkla sonuçlandı… Yaşanan ekonomik kriz zaten zor olan yaşam koşullarını daha da zorlaştırdı ve bugün, hayvanları sahiplenirken “sonsuz bir sevgi ile sevecekleri” sözünü veren kişiler, bu hayvanları tekrar bizlerin sırtına yüklüyorlar. Hem de eşi benzeri görülmemiş bir oran ve hızla…
Bütün bunlar nedeniyle birtakım tedbirler almak zorunda kaldık:
1.    Sahip Çıkalım! bir daha ASLA “bir hayvan kuralı” konusunda istisna yapmayacak. İnsanlar hayvanı ne kadar isterse istesin, ne kadar söz verirse versin, bir daha asla istisnalar olmayacak.
2.    Sahip Çıkalım!, bugün itibariyle, yeni vakalar almayı kesmiştir. Şu anda bakımını üstlendiğimiz hayvanları sahiplendirmek için elimizden gelenin en iyisini yapacağız. Ancak hiçbir yeni hayvan alınmayacak.

3.    Sahip Çıkalım! sahiplendirmeye devam edecek ancak bütün kaynak ve gayretini yurt dışındaki ortak ağını geliştirmek/güçlendirmek ve hayvanları sahiplendirme başarımızın en basit ifadesiyle % 100 olduğu yurt dışında yuvalandırmaya odaklayacak.
Dolayısıyla, bugünden itibaren, yerel olarak sahiplendirme konusundaki yardım taleplerinizi yanıtlayamayacağız. Eğer içinizden biri, bir hayvan sahiplenmek isterse, lütfen bizi arayın. Sizin uygun bir sahip olacağınıza inanırsak, size yardıma muhtaç bir hayvan buluruz ancak son köpeğimizi de sahiplendirdikten sonra, bir daha yerel yuva arayışına girmeyeceğiz.

Bu, Sahip Çıkalım!’ın yuva arayışına son verdiği anlamına gelmiyor. Tam aksine, sahiplendirmeye devam edeceğiz, ancak çok daha seçici bir biçimde… En çaresiz vakaları tek tek seçeceğiz: Sakat köpekler, üç bacaklı hayvanları, körler… Bu hayvanları özenle seçecek ve onları yurt dışında sahiplendireceğiz. Bütün bunları hiçbir masraftan kaçınmadan yapacağız. Umuyoruz ki, bir gün Türkiye’de yaşayan hayvan severler ne yapmaya çalıştığımızı anlayacak ve adlarına yakışır bir şekilde davranacak: Evindeki koltuğa en çok uyacak köpeği (ki bu köpek sahibi için en ufak bir sorun yarattığında kapının önüne koyulacaktır) arayan kaprisli ve aptal insanlar yerine özverili hayvan severler olacaklar…

Bu yeni politika bizi daha da özgürleştirecek ve bu sayede BÜTÜN zaman ve kaynaklarımızı sorumlu insanların kendi başlarına halledebilecekleri konular yerine eğitime ayırabileceğiz. Toplumun “hayvan sever” kesimi birçok kademede eğitime muhtaç: Hayvanların davranış ve ihtiyaçları, kısırlaştırma ve diğer ahlaki konular…
Sahip Çıkalım! bu boşluğu doldurarak yoluna devam edecek…

Ears Before...

Dear Friends,

For the last two years Let’s Adopt has worked tirelessly to educate its members about adoption, sterilization and animal issues.
For two years we have been building an unprecedented network of connections, facilitating relationships, both within Turkey and overseas. In the process we have earned credibility and the trust of our members.
However we feel we have failed.
We have failed at instilling the most basic of the messages into people’s heads. Responsibility.
In order to reduce the chances of failure we set up the toughest adoption rules in Turkey. Let’s Adopt wouldnt give you an animal unless you currently had an animal at home, Let’s Adopt would not give any animals in adoption destined to be kept on a garden, or a factory. Those rules have worked very very well for us. True, it has limited the amount of animals we could save, but it ensured a nearly total success rate.

The problem came when we made exceptions. The truth is, under our tough retoric we are very soft-hearted people, we made expections to the first rule, we believed the words of “animal lovers” who didnt have an animal right then but who promised us they would never let their animals, and us, down.

In the vast majority of those those adoptions have failed… The economic crisis has made things tougher, and people who promised eternal love for their animals are now dumping their animals back on us at an unprecedented rate.

All of this forces us to take three measures:

1. Let’s Adopt will NEVER make another exception to the One animal rule. No matter how much those people want the animal, no matter how many promises, we wont make exceptions again. Never.

2. Let’s Adopt stops, as of today, to take up new cases. We will do our best to place the animals we currently have under our care, but no more new cases will be considered.

3. Let’s Adopt will continue rehoming but it will focus all its resources and efforts in strengthening its overseas partner network and rehoming our animals overseas, where our success rate is, simply put, 100%.

As of today we wont be able to answer your request of assistance with new cases to be rehomed locally. If any of you wants to adopt an animal by any means call us and, if we believe you are suitable well find an animal in need for you but after we have placed our last dog we wont be seeking local adoptions any longer.

This, does not mean Let’s Adopt will stop rehoming, not at all. We will continue doing so but in an even more selective way. We will be handpicking the most desperate cases, the handicapped animals, the three legged, the blind ones, and will rehome them overseas. We will be doing so regardless the expense in the hope that one day, the “animal lovers” of Turkey will have understood what we are trying to do and will live up to their name becoming just that, selfless animal lovers instead of capricious silly people looking for the cutest dog to match their leather sofa. Dogs that will be dumped the moment they have the slightest personal problem.

This new direction will allow us to be freer and to dedicate ALL our time and resources to education instead of having to deal with issues that responsible people should be able to deal with on their own. The “animal loving” community is in desperate need of education at multiple levels, animal behavior and needs, animal nutrition, even moral issues… Let’s Adopt! will continue providing just that.

Bunları İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Sayın Kadir Topbaş’ın selden etkilenen Silivri’ye yaptığı ve utandıran ziyareti TV’de
seyrettikten sonra yazıyorum. Kent, felaketin yanında son derece eksik kalan tepki ve Belediyelerin hazırlıksızlığı nedeniyle çaresiz kalmış durumda. İnsanlar kızgın, sorular soruyorlar, Sayın Topbaş insanlarla empati veya kenti
etkileyen bu trajediye dair bir bağ kuramıyor.

Kaçınılmaz olarak Türkiye’yi perişan eden 1999 depreminin anıları canlanıyor gözümüzde. Bir gecede neredeyse 55 000 kişi hayatlarını kaybetti. Hükümetin yardımı geç ve yetersiz kaldı. Kurbanların sayısı o zamandan bu zamana hep eksik gösterildi.

2009… 10 yıl sonra ülke Başakşehir Belediye Başkanı Sayın Mevlüt Uysal‘ı TV’deki kibrine şahitlik ediyor. Başakşehir sınırları içindeki Bahçeşehir Barınağında  bir grup gönüllü çamura saplanmış hayvanları kurtarmak için çırpınırken sayın Uysal kameralar karşısında defalarca yardım taleplerini reddediyor. Başkan kurtarma çalışmalarına yardım etmiyor, çaresiz durumdaki hayvanların kurtarılması için parmağını bile kıpırdatmıyor.

Sayın Uysal kendisine telefon edilmesini, soru sorulmasını saygısızlık olarak görüyor, yardım istenmesini bir hakaret kabul ediyor.
Kibir. Hakaret gibi ve kabul edilmez bir kibir. Örneklerini daha önce de görmüştük. Adı hayvan haklarına ve kanunlara karşı çıkmakla bir anılan Beykoz’un eski belediye başkanı Muharrem Ergül’de görmüştük aynı tavrı.

Sahip Çıkalım! ateşli bir kamuoyu savaşı verdi ve kazandı. Ergül partisi tarafından tekrar aday gösterilmedi.

Bugün bir eylem ricası yapıyoruz. Sayın Uysal’ın genel bir tepki ve kınamayla karşı karşıya kalması ve kendisine seçilmiş bir temsilci
olarak görevlerinin hatırlatılması gerekiyor.

Sahip Çıkalım! sizlere Türk vatandaşları olarak sahip olduğunuz hakları da hatırlatmak istiyor. Başınızdakiler bulundukları yerlere
sizin oylarınızla geliyorlar. Ve sizin oylarınızla güç sahibi olanlar siz sessiz ve tepkisiz kaldıkça isteklerinizi bir kenara itmeye devam
edecekler.

Sahip Çıkalım! 22 000 üyesi adına, ve ülkenin diğer hayvan hakları gruplarının da öfkesinin sesi olarak Sayın Uysal’dan kamuoyu önünde bir özür dilemesini ve Bahçeşehir Barınağında 130 canın acı ve bitkinlik içinde ölümüyle sonuçlanan bu trajediden doğrudan sorumlu olan ekibi derhal görevden almasını talep ediyor.

Bahçeşehir, drowning in arrogance

I write this after watching footage of the embarassing visit of Mr Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of the Istanbul Greater Municipality to Silivri, a  district severy affected by the floods.

furious, questions are being asked, Mr. Topbaş shows no sign of The city is dismayed at the completely inadequate response to the disaster and the lack of preparation of the municipality. People are  empathy or connection with the tragedy affecting this city.

Inevitably, memories of the 1999 earthquake that devastated Turkey come to mind. In a single night, 55.000 people lost their lives. The government response was completely inadequate,  the number of victims was, and to this day still is, downplayed.

2009… Ten years later, the country witnesses in disbelief in TV the display of arrogance of Mr Mevlüt Uysal, mayor of Başakşehir. Whilst a small team of volunteers race against the clock to save the stranded animals, Mr. Mevlüt Uysal repeatedly refuses to answer their pleas for help. The Mayor would not assist the rescue efforts, he would not lift a finger to save the lives of a bunch of helpless animals.

Mr. Uysal considered a sign of disrespect to be telephoned, questioned, he considered an insult to be asked for help.

Mr. Uysal rejected to accept the offers of help from the Greater Municipality and others. In the end assistance was sent to them  anyway.

Arrogance. Insulting and unacceptable arrogance. We have seen it before. We saw it in the words and actions of Muharrem Ergüll, the

ex-mayor of Beykoz whose name became synonymous with animal cruelty and blatant disregard for the Law.

Let’s Adopt! fought a fierce battle for public opinion and won. Ergül was not presented by his party for re-election.

Today we are making an appeal to action. Mr. Uysal has to be confronted with a general show of reject and dissaproval that reminds of his duties as elected representative.

Let’s Adopt! wants to remind you all of your rights as Turkish citizens. Those in power are there with the support of your votes, those in power will continue disregarding the wishes of the people as long as the citizens remain silent.

Let’s Adopt!, speaking on behalf of its 22.000 members and voicing the indignation of the rest of the country’s animal welfare organizations demands a public apology on the part of Mr. Uysal and the immediate dismissal of the team directly responsible for the tragedy at the Bahçeşehir shelter, which resulted in the harrowing deaths of 130 lives.

Sookie… Umut var.

Son üç gündür hepimiz üzüntü, çaresizlik ve kızgınlıkla doluyuz. Bugün size umut getirmek istiyorum, küçük, siyah beyaz, kırma, ırk
meraklılarının dikkatini asla çekmeyecek bir köpekçik. Adını Sookie koyduk. Sookie cehennemden kurtuldu. Kararlılık ve cesaretle Bahçeşehir barınağında yaşanan sel felaketinde hayatta kalmayı becerdi.

Dün, hayatta kalan köpeklerin bir bölümünü misafir eden SHKD Barınağına gidip Sookie’yi aldım.

36 saat önce Cehennemde yaşıyordu… Bugün Cennette, geçici ailesinin, genç bir çift ve köpek arkadaşının yanında.

Sookie tüm hayvanseverlere örnek olmalı. Yapılabilir! Türkiye’de barınaklarda köpek-kedi kalmamalı. Hayvanseverler bu örneğe de bakarak bu güzel hayvanları sahiplenmeliler. Irk peşinde koşan “hayvansever”leri hiç bir zaman anlayamayacağım. Safkan Golden
Retriever’larla dolu hayvan hakkı savunucuları toplantılarını ikiyüzlü buluyorum. Gülünesi bir durum.

Sookie… there is hope.

The last three days have been filled with sadness, desperation, anger.. today Im bringing hope to you, hope in the shape of a small
black and white dog, a mix breed, completely unremarkable to those who are obsessed about breeds. We called her Sookie. Sookie is a survivor from Hell, through sheer determination and courage she managed to stay alive during the flood of the Bahcesehir shelter.

Yesterday I went to SHKD, one of the shelters that has helped in hosting the surviving dogs and got her out.

36 hours ago she was living in Hell… today she is in Heaven, living in a foster home, a young family and a dogie friend.

Sookie is an example to all animal lovers. It can be done!. There should be no dog in a shelter in Turkey. Animal lovers should lead by
example and adopt one of those beautiful animals. I will never understand animal lovers who are “breed specific”.. I find completely
hypocritical to see gatherings of animal activists filled with pure breed golden retrievers. Its ridiculous..

Anyway, here is Sookie… one of the luckiest dogs in the entire world.

Please adopt one of the surviving dogs of the Bahcesehir shelter from the Yedikule, Bakirkoy or SHKD Kemerbugaz shelter.

Bonzo’nun Kısacık Hikayesi – The Short Story of Bonzo

Acımasızcasına sıcak bir gündü. Beykoz Beldiyesi Barınağı’ndan ormana atılmış çaresiz köpekciklere su ve yiyecek sağlamak üzere orada bulunan bir avuç gönüllüydük. Bu son derece merhametsiz hareket doğal bir felakete neden olmuş; başıboş köpeklerle, bebeklerle, hasta ve yaralı hayvanlarla, hamile köpekcikler ve daha yeni doğum yapmış analarla dolu bir orman… Her zaman aç ve her zaman susuzlar.

Kavuran güneşin altındalar, gönüllülerin yol kenarındaki yoğurt kocalarına doldurduğu bir yudum suya muhtaçlar… Piknikçilerin
çöpleriyle beraber arkalarında bıraktıkları kuru ekmek parçalrını kemirmeye muhtaçlar.

Bonzo‘yu burada bulduk. Uzman rehberimiz ve ormanın en bilge gönüllüsüne göre sürüde yeniydi. Diğerleriyle anlaşmaya çalışıyordu ama belli ki biraz dayak yemişti. Yüzü yaralanmış, yanaklarının derisi soyulmuştu.

Ne yapabilirdik? Bu binlerce köpeğin arasından hangi birisini alabilirdik? Hangisini alıp hangisini kaderine terk edeceğimize nasıl
karar verebilirdik?

Fotoğraflarını çektik, diğer bebekler gibi ona da parazit hapları verdik, üzgün yüzüne antibiyotik kremler sürdük. Ve sonunda onu bu
cehennemden çekip almak zorunda kaldık. Kalplerimiz geride kalan bebekler için sızlıyordu ama kim onlara “sevgi dolu bir yuva”
verebilecekti? Elimizdeki pek çok köpek yazı pansiyonlarda geçirmişti.
Neredeydiniz?

Bonzo 4-5 aylık, tatlı bir erkek bebek, aşıları tamam. Oyuncu, enerji dolu bu çocuk çocuklara bayılıyor ve diğer köpeklerle çok iyi geçiniyor. Toprağa dokunmayı seviyor, yani Bonzo bir ev köpeği olsa da, küçük bir kızın yatağından çıkıp geliyorsa da ona koşup oynayabileceği bir bahçe verebilmek harika olur.

Bonzo’yu ailenize katın, hiç pişman olmayacaksınız.

Bonzo…

It was a cruelly hot day. We were a handful of volunteers feeding and providing water for the unfortunate dogs of Beykoz, dumped by the Beykoz Municipal Shelter in the forest. This extremely pitiless act has created a natural disaster: a forest full of stray dogs, babies, disabled and sickly animals, pregnant dogs and dogs that have just delivered babies… They are hungry and thirsty, all the time.
They are there under the scorching sun, in need of a drop of water that is provided by the tireless volunteers in yogurt buckets… They are there to munch on pieces of stale bread and whatever else that the picnickers leave behind along with their rubbish.
That is where we found Bonzo. He was tiny, and new to the pack as our guide, a seasoned veteran of the forest told us. He was trying to fit in with the others but obviously he was beaten up a little. His face was injured, the skin had come off his cheeks.
What could we do? Amongst the thousands of dogs, which one could one take? How do we make this choice of who to save and who to leave behind to their fate?
We took pictures of him, gave him anti parasite pills like we did with the other babies,, put antibiotic creams on his little sad face. And in the end, we just had to grab him away from that hell. Our hearts ached for the remaining babies but where are the “loving homes” for those, even for the ones we have who have spent their entire summers in pensions. Where were you?
Bonzo is approximately 4-5 months old. He is a strapping male baby, vaccinations completed. He is a playful, energetic young guy who adores kids and gets on very well with other dogs. He loves to touch the ground, so although Bonzo is a home dog, straight out of a little girl’s bed it would be great to offer him a garden as well.
Add Bonzo to your family and you’ll never regret it.

Av. Ahmet Kemal Şenpolat Haytap websitesinde çok güzel bir makale yayınladı bugün. Yazısında Bahceşehir trajedisinden öğrendikleri üzerinde duruyor ve Türkiye’nin profesyonel bir hayvan kurtarma organizasyonuna, eğitimli ve bağlantı halinde bir ğonüllü ağına ihtiyacı olduğunu belirtiyor. Ahmet aynı zamanda Bahceşehir Belediyesi ve konuya olan tepkisizlikleri, ihmalkarlıkları, hayvanlar hızla yükselen selin içinde,çamurda boğulurken herşeyin yolunda olduğuna dair bildirileri konularına da son derece eleştirel yaklaşıyor.
Belediye, böyle durumlarda belediyeler ne yaparsa onu yaptı, gercekleri sakladı. Son iki yıldır bu türden sayısız olayla karşılaştık. Belediyeler devamlı gercekleri saklıyorlar. Bu sıradan bir davranış. Herkes farkında.

Ne yapılabilir? yasal yollara başvurmak tek çozüm.
Bir hükümet düşünün ki sürekli yasanın dışında hareket ediyor. Bu toplumsal normal hareketlerini nasıl etkiler?

Problem şu ki, bu konular hepimizi etkilese de sadece bazı bireyler, hayvanseverler bu konnuya gereken ilgiyi gösteriyor. Ve maalesef hayvanseverler de mantıklı ve sistematik tepki vermekten uzak davranabiliyorlar.
Ahmet haklı… Bu ülkenin hayvan hakları ihlalleri veya sadece kurumsal ihlallere dair acil durumlara müdahale edebilecek bir
organizasyona ihtiyacı var.

İngiltere’de RSPCA, Amerika’da SPCA… Türkiye’nin şu anda bir avuç gonüllüsü, o gece uyumayıp felaket bölgesine gitmeyi başaran yorgun ve çalışkan kadınları var.

Ahmet Kemal Sempolat wrote a great article today on the Haytap website.
In it he elaborated on the lesson he learned from the Bahceşehir tragedy, that Turkey needs a professional organization of animal rescuers AND a more educated volunteer network. Ahmet is extremely critical of the performance of the Bahceşehir Municipality and the way they dealt with the situation, the lack of response, the initial pretense that they were dealing with the situation when in fact the animals were drowning in mud and rapidly raising waters.
The Municipality did what Municipalities do in those cases, covering up the truth. In the last two years we have had to deal with countless of this situations. Municipalities routinely covering up the truth. It is common practice. Everyone knows it.
What to do?
Legal action is the only answer.
Imagine a government routinely acting illegally. How does this affect the normal functioning of society?
The problem is, whilst these are issues that affect all of us only a few concerned individuals, animal lovers, truly care. And sadly, those animal lovers tend to find totally impossible to react in any logical and systematic way.
Ahmet is right… this country needs an organization that deals with emergencies related to animal abuse or simply, institutional abuse such as this one.
England has the RSPCA, the US has the SPCA… Turkey only has a bunch of volunteers, tired and hard working ladies who luckily were up that night and managed to find their way to the disaster zone.

Teşekkürler. Bahçeşehir Barınağındaki trajik olaylara olağanüstü bir tepki verenlere çok teşekkürler.
Son 24 saat inanılmazdı. Türkiye’nin dört bir yanından ve dünyanın çeşitli yerlerinden destek önerileri aktı.

Sizlerle gurur duyuyoruz.

Çok küçük sayıda kedi kurtulabildi. Onlar da kurtarıcılarında kalıyorlar.

Bugün çok kişiden bu hayvanlara geçici olarak bakmak istediklerine dair mesajlar aldık. Lütfen Yedikule ve Bakırköy barınaklarını ziyaret ederek bu çocukları sahiplenin Kış geliyor, lütfen onları dışarıda bırakmayın. yeteri kadar çektiler.
Maddi yardımda bulunarak kurtarma ve tıbbi masraflara katkıda bulunmak isteyenlerden pek çok eposta alıyoruz.

Bahcesehir.. The situation right now.

Thank you. Thank you to all of you for the incredible response to the tragic events at the Bahcesehir Shelter.

The last 24 hours have been unbelieveble. Offers of help have arrived from all corners of Turkey and overseas.

We are proud of you.
Here is the latest update. The vast majority of the surviving dogs have been moved to the Yedikule, Bakirkoy and SHKD . Only a small number of dogs remained today in the vicinity of the shelter and we were trying to organize a team to catch them and take them to a safe place.

Only a very small number of cats survived. They are are staying with the same volunteers that rescued them.

Today we have received a large number of emails from people willing to foster those animals. Please visit the shelters of Yedikule and Bakirkoy and adopt one of those survivors. The winter is coming. Please don’t let them spend it outside. They have had enough.

We are receiving a large number of emails wanting to donate towards the rescue and medical expenses of this operation.

I would ask you to get in touch with the Association of Shelter volonteers. BGD

Hepiniz şehrimiz İstanbul’da yaşanan trajik olayları biliyorsunuz.
Aşırı yağış nedeniyle meydana gelen ani su baskınları kentin bazı bölgelerindeki büyük alanları perişan etti.
Şu ana kadar can kaybı sayısı 34, pek çok insan ise evlerini terketmek zorunda kaldı.
Sokak hayvanları da büyük sıkıntıda. Sokaklarda yaşayan binlerce hayvan hayatını kaybetti. Ancak hiç bir yerde bu trajedi Bahçeşehir Belediyesi Barınağında görülen kadar korkunç değil.

Barınak, önceki gece içerdeki hayvanlara tuzak oldu. Selin ardında bıraktıklarını bu fotoğraflarda görebilirsiniz.

Barınaklarınız yüksekte olsalar da yağmurların yiyecek geliş-gidişini etkilemesi çok muhtemel.

Tragedy in Istanbul… rains are coming.. they will be next.

Dear Friends,

By know you all have heard the tragic events in our city, Istanbul.
Torrential flash floods caused by unprecedented rains have devastated large parts of the city.
To date 34 people have died, many are displaced.
The stray animals are suffering as well. Thousands of animals living on the streets have drowned.
But nowehere is the tragedy more evident that in the Municipal shelter of Bacesehir.
That shelter, early last night, turned into a trap for the animals it was hosting.
What is left of the place can be seen in these pictures…

A number of surviving animals have been moved to different shelters in Istanbul, Yedikule, Bakirkoy and of course, SHKD in Kemeburgaz but many are left behind.

Heavy rains are forecasted for Friday and Saturday. The tragedy is likely to be repeated unless we all do something.

To all animal lovers out there, please, help.

Groups of volunteers are currently coordinating delivery of food and supplies to the Bahcesehir shelter. Contact me and I will point you
out in the right direction. However, in my view the most important priority is to get those dogs, and cats, out of that place, even if
only temporarily.  Also, to all shelters volunteers of other shelters around Istanbul and in other cities, stay alert, even if your shelters
are in high ground the coming rains are likely to disrupt access and food supplies.

Please have a look at this pictures and take action. Adopt or foster one or more of those animals. If you have cats please get a couple, or
three out of there. Same if you are a dog person. Take action. Dont just stay there looking at the computer screen and feeling miserable.

Take action. Make a difference. Save a life. The rains are coming.

Let’s Adopt is example of the great possibilities of the use of social media to create an engaging community dedicated to a social cause.

From the moment Let’s Adopt became a success we became the benchmark for organizations of this type, in Turkey and elsewhere. This experience has enabled us to create a massive network of contacts, both locally and internationally, a “tribe” that listens what we have to say and which, in turn, influences everyone around them.

But the beauty of Let’s Adopt is not only that, from this platform, we can spread our message, and educate by example, another great thing about it is that this group enables us to listen to you and to allow you to communicate with each other.
So today we are going to start an experience that, hopefully, will increase the flow of ideas as well as increase the level of connectivity amongst our members: The Let’s Adopt Dialogues.

Twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays we will be proposing a subject of conversation/dialogue. I would like to invite you all to participate on it. I would ask you to state your case and opinions on a particular issue in as detailed way as possible. This will help us understand the way animal lovers feel about certain issues that matter to us all.

If you are citing a specific piece of evidence to support your case, you must give a URL or source from which you got your information.

General rules apply, please, no profanity, no insults, no slander…

Conversations (and even more so when animal lovers are involved) can get heated, keep it all polite. Remember that Let’s Adopt is a community and accept that views are going to be different.

The debates will be bilingual, you will be able to choose to participate in the Turkish or the English dialogue. We will be involved in both conversations equally.

Gulumser today

Gulumser is in need of a home!

Over the last month you all have  been witnesses to the recovery of Gulumser, our miracle cat.

Gulumser is now completely recovered from her ordeal and she is a healthy happy kitten, who loves to play with dogs, with cats, who
loves to run, jump, eat raw like a tiger and above all, who loves people.
The moment we told the story of Gulumser to the world we received hundreds of letters. Most of them were expressions of support,
hundreds were offering their love, their prayers. Many of them offered a permanent loving home to Gulumser once she recovered fully.
So here she is, Gulumser, the miracle baby is now ready to go to the perfect home.
This is a very special cat, and we are sure only very special people will apply for her. This cat is a miracle, we are looking for the
miracle home.
Each one of our animals is special, and they all have a story to tell, but Gulumser is unique, her story so compelling. Whomever adopts her, will add one of the most beautiful gems to his home, an animal so special, with so much to teach us all about life, about tenacity,
about strenght and courage, that the life of the family will change..  forever.

Sahip Çıkalım! Güven Aracıları – Let’s Adopt! Trust Agents

Birçoğunuz okuduğunuz bu metnin hayvanların refahından çok işle ilgili, ticari bir metin olduğunu düşünebilirsiniz. Ama lütfen devam edin, ne demek istediğimi anlayacaksınız.

İnsanlar, doğaları gereği, güven duydukları ve sosyal çevrelerini de rahat ettiren şeylere inanmak eğilimindedirler. Genellikle dostlarımıza güveniriz. Sanal ortamda bu “dost”lar dünyanın her köşesinde olabilir. Bu dostlar arasında güvenimizi kazanmaya başlayanlara “Güven Aracıları” denir. “Güven Aracıları, sanal dünyayı bugün sıradan bir şirketin Halkla İlişkiler ya da Pazarlama Bölümü’nün yapabileceğinden çok daha hızlı, geniş ve derin bir etki yaratmak için kullanırlar. Üstelik bunu görev olarak değil, içten gelen bir şevkle yaparlar.

Gücen Aracısı için yeni ağlar örmek adeta doğal bir reflekstir. Bunu yardım ederek, başkalarının yapmış olduğu iyi işleri destekleyerek, ellerindeki en iyi malzemeyi bile hiç tereddütsüz paylaşarak ve her şeyden önemlisi bütün bunların karşılığında hiçbir şey beklemeden yaparlar.”

Güven Aracıların’nın birkaç özelliği:

1. Kendi oyunlarını kurarlar. Bu oyunun ego şişirmekle hiçbir ilgisi yoktur. Bu insanlar, kendi kurallarını koyar ve nesnelere sıradışı ya da ilgi çekici anlamlar yüklerler.
2. Güven Aracıları da “bizden biri”dir. “Sosyal medya” kavramı bir bakıma gereksizdir. Bir tek Web bu tanıma uyabilir; sanal ortam antisosyal arızalar ve az bulunur çatlakların oyun sahasıdır –anlarsınız ya?.. Güven Aracıları samimi ilişkiler kurabileceğimiz ve başkalarının da iyiliğini isteyen kişilerdir.
3. Güven Aracıları “kaldıraç prensibi”ni –Arşimed burgusu- anlayan kişilerdir (“Bana üzerinde durabileceğim bir yer verin ve dünyayı sarsayım”) ve başka insanlara da yetki verirler.
4. Güven Aracıları kusursuz iletkenlerdir –“sonsuz bir ileti” güçleri vardır. “Nereye giderlerse gitsinler, Guven Aracıları doğru ve iyi insanları bir araya getirme çabası içindedirler.” Güven Aracıları salt çöpçatanlar değil, daha çok bağ kuruculardır.
5. Güven Aracıları “insan sanatkâr”larıdır. Sanal dünyada, insani mimiklerin ve hareketlerin % 93’ünden mahrumuz (% 38 vokal tonlar ve % 55 vücut dili). Bu mahrumiyet birçok gaf yaptırır. Güven Aracıları iletişimin derin estetiğini ve töresini anlarlar.
6. Güven Aracıları “ordu kurma”yı bilirler. Bunu tek başınıza yapamazsınız. Peki, binlerce serbest ve yalnız savaşçıyı size katılıp birlikte hareket etmeye en iyi nasıl ikna edersiniz? İnsanların sadakati birinci sıradadır ve en önemlisi de –bir Güven Aracısı olarak- sizin onlara gösterdiğiz sadakattir.

Ben bir Güven Aracısı’yım. Siz de öyle. Sahip Çıkalım! fikri, bugün sanal dünyanın üzerine kurulduğu prensipler doğrultusunda doğmuştur. Let’s Adopt!.. Trust Agents.

Some of you may think this is a post more about business that about animal welfare, but please continue reading, you will soon understand what I mean.

It is the nature of people to believe what tends to conform to their own social circles and the people that they trust. Generally, we trust
our friends. And on the web, those friends can be everywhere. The ones who set out to gain our trust are called “Trust Agents.” “Trust agents use today’s web tools to spread their influence, faster, wider, and deeper than a typical company’s PR or marketing department might be capable of achieving, and with more interest in people, too.

A Trust Agent builds networks almost reflexively by being helpful, by promoting the good work that others do, by sharing even their best stuff without hesitation, and by finding ways to deliver even more value on top of all that without asking for anything in return.”

Here are some characteristics of Trust Agents:

1. They make they own game. Nothing to do with ego packaging. They are the people who set new rules and provide a novel or interesting perspective on things.
2. They are “one of us.” The expression “social media” maybe somewhat redundant, except that the Web can also be the playing ground of antisocial nerds and weirdos like you-know-who. Trust Agents are people we can relate to and care about others.
3. Trust Agents understand the principle of the lever – or the Archimedes effect (“Give me a place on which to stand, and I will move
the earth”) and empower others.
4. They are marvel-ous connectors — they have the power of an “Agent Zero.” “No matter where they go, trust agents have a desire to connect good people together.” They are not mere networkers and are more like relationship facilitators.
5. They are human artists. On the Web, we are deprived on 93 percent of all the human signals (38 percent vocal tones and 55 percent body movement), which exposes anybody to a number of blunders. They understand the subtle aesthetics and the etiquette of communication.
6. They know how to “build an army.” You can’t do it alone. But how can you best convince thousands of ronin and lone rangers to join in and follow? The loyalty of people is first and foremost your loyalty, as a Trust Agent, to them.

I am a Trust Agent. So are you. The idea of Let’s Adopt is built on the very principles in which the web is built, today. Trust agents at the intersections of a gigantic network of connections. This is precisely where the Power of Let’s Adopt resides. Together, all of us,
have enough power and influence to create enormous change and to change the world..

Lara’nın Kitabı – Lara’s Book

Bu sabah, 11:30′dan biraz sonra, Lara bizi terk etti…
Hafta sonunu olasılıklara bakarak geçirdik. Lara’nın durumuyla ilgili ilk mesajımızdan sonra yurt dışından pek çok mesaj aldık. Lara’yı sahiplenmek, ülkelerinde ona en üst seviyede bakım ve tedavi sağlamak için Türkiye’ye uçmak isteyen çok kişi vardı. Bu iyi insanlara en derin teşekkürlerimi sunuyorum. Maalesef olamadı tüm bunlar. Lara’ya
bir buçuk yıl geç ulaştık.
Öğrendik ki Lara’yı bagajda kapalı tutan “kişi” onu veteriner hekime götürmüş. Doktor kendisine tanının karmaşık olduğunu ve Lara’da kanser tespit edildiğini söylemiş ve acısını dindirebilecek önerilerde bulunmuş. Bu insan bunları dinlememiş ve onu bagaja koymuş. Tedavi edilmeden…

- Kanser; meme kanseri olarak başlayan kanser yayılmış ve vücudun her yerinde çeşitli tümörler oluşmuş. Kanser metastaz yaparak iç organlarına da atlamış.
- Lara’da kocaman bir vajinal tümör oluşmuş, kemoterapiyle iyileşmesi imkansız ve ameliyatlı alınması gereken bir tümör, ancak;
- Lara’nın kalbi son derece kötü durumdaymış. Kalp inanılmaz derecede büyümüş.
- Lara’nın ağzı… Lara’nın ağzı tamamen çürümüş. Dişleri ve diş etleri yıllardır yediği ticari mamalar yüzünden mahvolmuş, iltihaplanmış. Ağız, bir bakteri kaynağı haline gelmiş. Her yutkunduğunda bu enfeksiyonlardan gelen milyonlarca bakteriyi de
yutarak vücuduna almış ve bu bakteriler iç organları perişan etmiş.
- Son olarak, Lara’da Spondylosis, omurga osteoartiriti varmış. Çocuk korkunç bir acı içindeymiş.

Tüm bunlar önlenebilirdi… Erken kısırlaştırmayla kanserin önüne geçilebilirdi. Bunun yerine sahipleri onu olduğu gibi bırakmayı ve
üretmeyi tercih ettiler. Kalbindeki büyüme doğrudan vücuduna giren enfeksiyonlarla ilgili, ve tabii korkunç yaşam koşullarıyla… Bu da, biyolojisine uygun “avcı modeli” beslenmeyle, yani etli kemiklerle beslenerek önlenebilirdi. Hatta osteoartirit, yaşlanmaya bağlı olan bu hastalık bile çok başarılı bir şekilde önlenebilir ve tedavi edilebilirdi. Egzersiz ve fizyoterapi bu hastalık için en etkili
çözümler, Glucosamine ve B12 vitamin desteği ile birlikte. Bunlar yerine bu çocuk 1,5 yıl boyunca daracık bir yere hapsedildi.

Lara, tüm sistemlerindeki çöküş yüzünden öldü. Sahiplerinin cehaleti yüzünden öldü. İşkenceciye dönen hayvanseverler yüzünden öldü. Ve büyük ölçüde hasta sahiplerini önleyici tıp konusunda eğitemeyen veterinerlik kurumu yüzünden öldü.

Sonunda herşey aynı noktaya geliyor… Eğitim.
İste, bu sabah, hekimimizle beraber Lara’nın acısını dindirmek ve ona acının var olmadığı bir yere, köpeklerin özgürce koştuğu, yaşlarının öneminin olmadığı, insanların cehalet ve ataletleriyle hayvanlara işkence etmediği bir dünyaya göndermek üzere son derece güç bir karar aldık. Bugün Lara’nın kitabının son sayfasını çevirdik.

Lara’nın ölümünün boşuna olmaması için elimizden geleni yapacağız. Türk kamuoyunu hayvan davranışı ve beslenmesi konusunda eğitme çabamıza devam edeceğiz. Veterilerlik Kurumunun eksikliklerine, hem burada hem de yurtdışında eğilecek ve herşeyden önemlisi hayuvanseverlere hayvanı sadece sevmenin yetmediğini göstereceğiz.
Sevgi, eğer hayvanın ihtiyaçlarını anlamıyorsanız faydasızdır.

Bundan sonraki mesajımız karışık bir mesele olan Ticari Mamalar, bunların hayvanınızın sağlığı üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri, ve en
önemlisi, Veterinerlik Kurumunun doğrudan ticari mamalarla beslenmeyle ortaya çıkan hastalıklardaki rolü konusunda olacak.

Lara's Book

This morning, shortly after 11.30 Lara left us.

We spent the weekend looking at different possibilities. After our first post on Lara’s plea we received a big number of emails from
overseas, people who wanted to adopt Lara, people who could afford the best veterinary care for her, people who offered to fly to Turkey and ensure she would receive the best care back in their countries.
To those people I thank from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately it couldn’t be. We got to Lara one and a half years too late.

We have found out that a few months ago the “person” who kept Lara in captivity took her to the vet. The doctor told her that Lara had
cancer and that the prognosis was complicated. The veterinarian made some suggestion to alleviate the pain. The person didn’t listen and she returned the dog back to the trunk.. untreated.

This weekend we went over the several problems that plagued Lara:

-  Cancer.. what started as mammary cancer had spread. There were a number of tumors growing all over her body, the cancer had metastised and spread onto other organs.
-  Lara had a massive vaginal tumor, far too large to be treated with chemotherapy she would have had to be operated, the problem is that…
-  Lara’s heart was very troubled. The heart was extremely enlarged.
-  Lara’s mouth. Lara’s mouth was completely rotten. Her teeth and gums were completely infected due to years of feeding her commercial food. Her mouth had become a constant source of bacteria. Every time she swallowed millions and millions of bacteria coming from that massive source of infection would enter her body and wreak havoc in her internal organs.
-  Finally, Lara’s had Spondylosis, spinal osteoarthritis. She was in massive pain.

All of this could have been avoided… Cancer could have been avoided with early sterilization.. instead her owners bred her and left her
intact. The enlargement of her heart is directly linked to the continuous levels of infections entering her body from her infected mouth as well as her insane living conditions. This wouldn’t have happened had she been feed a biologically appropriate diet based on
the prey model, that is, Raw Meaty bones. Even Osteoarthritis, a disease linked to age could have been treated to great success.
Exercise and physiotherapy are the most effective form of treatment for the disease, combined with supplements such a glucosamine.. instead she was confined in the same tight space during one and a half year.

Lara died because of a failure of the system. She died because of the lack of education of the owners, of the “animal lover turned torturer”, and, on a larger scale, due to the lack of efforts of the veterinary community to educate their patients on preventive medecine.

It all goes back to the same point.. education.

So, this morning, together with our amazing vet, we took the difficult decision to end Lara’s pain and show her the way to a place where pain doesn’t exist, where dogs run free, ageless, a place far away from a world where uneducated people inflict torture on their animals through their lack of knowledge and inaction. Today we turned the last Page on Lara’s book.

We will do our best for Lara’s death not to be in vain. We will continue our mission to educate Turkish society on animal behavior and
animal nutrition. We will continue pointing fingers at the shortcomings of the Veterinary Profession both here and overseas, and
above all, we will continue showing our fellow animal lovers that loving an animal is not enough.. love is useless if it comes accompanied by a lack of understanding of the needs of the animal.

On our next post we elaborate on the issue of Commercial Food, the devastating effects on the health of your pets AND, most importantly, the role played by the veterinarian society in the spread of a massive plague of disease directly linked to Commercial Diets.

Kötü haber… Gerçekten kötü haber…

Lara’nın durumu çok ama çok kötü. Kemoterapiyle tedavi edilebilmek için çok büyük bir rahim tümörü var. Ameliyat edilmesi gerekiyor.

Bunun dışında meme tümörleri de var ameliyatla alınması gereken. Tüm bunlar onu 1,5 yıldır hapseden “hayvansever” bir veterinere götürmüş olsaydı önlenebilirdi.

Bu mesaj evinde dişi köpeği olan ve saçma sapan “ahlaki” sebeplerle köpeğini kısırlaştırmayan herkese; kısırlaştıramayan dişi köpeklerde meme ve rahim tümörü gelişme şansı çok yüksek, ve bu olasılık köpeğin ilk yıl içinde kısırlaştırılmasıyla neredeyse sıfıra düşüyor. İlk yıldan sonra kanser riski büyüyerek artıyor.

Bu, sevdiklerini kanser yüzünden kaybedenlerin öğrenmek zorunda kaldığı bir ders. Ben de çok iyi öğrendim. Kendi köpeğim Simba
kanserden öldü. Onu 14 yaşındayken kurtarmıştım, önceki sahibi kısırlaştırmayı aklına getirmemişti.

Hayvanlarınızı kısırlaştırın… Lütfen… Bu hayvan nüfusunun artmasını önlemek ve kanser riskini yok etmek için tek yol.

Tekrarlıyorum, dişileri kısırlaştırın… Lütfen… Lara’nın çağrısından bir ders alalım.

An update on Lara,

Bad news… very bad news…

Lara’s situation is very very difficult.
She has a massive ovarian tumor that is too big to deal with chemotherapy. We will need to operate.

She also has mammary tumors that will need to be operated.

All of this could have been avoided had the “animal lover” taken her to the vet during the last year and a half of imprisonment.

Here is a message to all of you who have female dogs at home and refused to neuter them based on ridiculous moral reasons. The
incidence of mamary and ovarian tumors on unneutered bitches is massive, and it can be reduced to practically zero by sterilizing the animal during the first year of age. After that the statistical rate of incidence of cancer increases exponentially after time passes.

This is a lesson learned the hard way by all of those who have lost their loved ones due to cancer. I know this very well. My own dog,
Simba, died of cancer. I rescued her when she was 14 year old, her previous owner didn’t care enough to do it.

Sterilize your animals.. please… it is the only way to avoid the tragedy of pet overpopulation AND to eliminate the risk of cancer for
your loved ones..

I repeat. Sterilize your females… please.. let’s learn a lesson from Lara’s plea.

Okumaya başlamadan önce size şunu söyleyeyim, Bu iletinin sonunda size yazdıklarımı Facebook sayfanızda paylaşmanızı ve Türkiye’de veya yurtdışında tanıdığınız tüm ‘hayvanseverler’e göndermenizi isteyeceğim. Aklımda bütün ‘hayvanseverler’ varken yazıyorum bu satırları. Hepiniz mutlaka okumalısınız.

50 santimetre…

Ellerinizi öne doğru, başparmaklarınız birbirine bakacak şekilde uzatın, sanki birisini kucaklayacakmış gibi kollarınızı açın. Bu aralık yaklaşık 50 santimetre…

50 santimetre Lara’nın san bir buçuk yılda bildiği tek yerdi.

Lara, yaşlı bir cocker. Yaklaşık 1,5 yıl önce bir ‘hayvansever’ tarafından kurtarıldı, ki adını aşağıda açıklayacağım nedenlerle vermiyoruz.

Bu kişi köpeği evine götürdü. Ancak maalesef eve gidince farketti ki dairesinde 20 kedisi vardı ve komşuları bu son gelen hayvan yüzünden problem çıkaracaklardı. Zor bir durumdaydı. Köpeği bir barınağa götürmek istemiyordu çünkü köpek toplama kampı olan barınaklarda hayvanların ne korkunç koşullarda yaşadıklarının farkındaydı. Köpekciğe bir ev bulmaya çalıştı ancak başarılı olamadı. Kimse yaşlı bir köpek istemiyordu. Çocuğu bir garaja verdi, onlar da bir-iki gün sonra geri getirdiler.’Hayvansever’ arkadaşları ona yardımcı olmadı. ‘Hayvansever Dernekler’ çağrılarına ve mesajlarına yanıt vermediler…

Ve, o anda Lara’nın ve kendi hayatını sonsuza kadar etkileyecek bir karar verdi. Köpekle birlikte caddedeki arabasına gitti, bagajı açtı ve içerdekileri biraz kenara itti, köpeğe yer hazırladı ve Lara’yı bagaja koydu. Sonra bagajın kapısını kapattı  ve Lara’yı orada bıraktı, karanlıkta, yapayalnız.

Dediğine göre sadece bir geceliğine bırakmak istemişti… sonunda bu işkence tam 1,5 yıl sürdü. Tam bir buçuk yıl… 550 gün, 550 gece. Yaz, kış, bunaltıcı sıcak ve donduran soğuk… Ve yalnızlık…

Gördüğünüz fotoğraflar Lara’nın 1,5 yıl içindeki ilk doğru dürüst yürüyüşünde çekildi, bugün öğleden sonra…
Bu kurtarma operasyonu için, kalbimin en derin köşesinden Sahip Çıkalım! üyesi, müthiş bir gönüllü ve iyilik ve şefkatle dolu bir insan evladı olan arkadaşımıza teşekkür ediyorum. Lara bugün kurtulduysa onun yorulmak bilmeyen çabaları sayesindedir. Gerçek kahramanımız O’dur.

İnsanlarla hayvanlar arasındaki en büyük problem empati yoksunluğu. Hayvanseverler empatileriyle gurur duyarlar. Oysa hiç bir şey gerçekten bu denli uzak olamaz.

Sahip Çıkalım! iki yıl önce kurulduğu günden beri hayvanseverlerin ’sevgi’ uğruna yaptıkları işkencelere tanıklık ettik, Hayatları boyunca kuş kafeslerine hapsedilmiş köpekler gördük, ağaçlara zincirlenmiş köpekler gördük, yere bağlanmış köpekler gördük, bodrumlarda gün ışığı görmeden yaşamış canlar gördük, hayvanseverlerin yüzlerce ‘kurtarılmış’ hayvanı, sağlık güvencesi olmayan, kışırlaştırılmamış 1500 hayvanla İstanbul’un ormanlarının bir köşesinde yaşayan bir adama sırf vicdanlarını rahatlatmak için terk ettiklerini gördük.

Bu insanlar kendilerini ‘hayvansever’ olarak takdim ediyorlar.

Ne zaman “Ben bir hayvanseverim…” diye başlayan bir ileti alsam korkudan titremeye başlıyorum.

Çoğunlukla gelen iletinin içeriği dudak uçuklatan cinsten. Hayvanların gereksinim ve doğalarından tamamen habersiz ve uzak… Hayatım boyunca daha cahil ve mantıksız bir grup insanla daha karşılaşmadım. Elbette istisnalar var, ama genelde hayvanseverlerle ilgili düşüncelerim daha kötü olamaz. Ve bu “bir defaya mahsus” olaylarla bağlantılı bir yargı değil. Sahip Çıkalım! her gün bu tür olaylarla başetmek zorunda kalıyor.

Son birkaç gün içinde Facebook’ta Lara’nın bir arabanın bagajında yaşadığıyla ilgili bir takım söylentiler dolaşıyordu. Günlerce kimse hiçbirşey yapmadı. Sonra, dün iki hayvansever durumu kendi gözleriyle görmek üzere gidip Lara’yı gördüler, sahibiyle tanıştılar, arabayı gördüler, yaşam koşullarını gördüler, fotoğraflar çektiler… VE hayvanı orada bıraktılar! Sonra, dünyanın her yerinde ‘hayvanseverler’in en iyi yaptığı şeyi yaptılar; bilgisayarlarının başına geçtiler, fotoğrafları yüklediler, ve bağırmaya başladılar… bağırmak, dilekçeler imzalamak, ve sonunda hiç birşey yapmamak…

Bu sabah yaşlı köpeğin hikayesini ve fotoğraflarını aldım. Önce inanamadım, ama yine de gönüllülerimizden birisinden gidip bakmasını rica ettim. Herşey gerçekti.

Köpeği veteriner hekimimize götürdük. işte Lara’nın konulan tanılar:

- Lara’da ileri derecede dehidrasyon var (susuzluk). Derisi zımpara kağıdı gibi. Bunun sebebi de bunca zaman  susuz ve vitaminsiz kalmış olması. 1,5 yıl boyunca karanlık bir bagajda yaşamanın sonu bu.

- Lara kör… Bu zaman içinde tamamen karanlıkta yaşamış olması bu durumun daha da kötüye gitmesine neden olmuş.

- Lara kanser hastası. Normal bir evde yaşıyor olsaydı tedavi olabilecekken kimse Lara’nın kanser hastası olduğunun farkına bile varmadı. Vücudunun çeşitli yerlerinde büyümekte olan tümörler ve memelerinde carcinoma var.

- Tahlillere devam ediyoruz ancak kanserin metastas yapmış olabileceğinden şüphe ediyoruz.

Bu “hayvansever” iyilik yapmak istedi. Ancak mantığındaki eksiklik ve yersiz korkuları onu en kötü işkenceciden beter duruma düşürdü,

“Hayvansever” olmak bu zulmü affettirmez. Allah onu affetsin, Allah hepimizi affetsin.

Cuma gecesi… Ülkenin en büyük gazetelerinden birisini okuyorum. 80 yaşında bir teyze Erzurum’da, güneşin altında, torunu tarafından arabaya kilitlenip unutulmuş.

Canavarlar… Etrafımız canavarlarla dolu…

Before you start reading let me tell you, at the end of this post I will ask you all to share this on your facebook pages and to forward it to every single “animal lover” you know, in Turkey, or overseas. I am writing with every single “animal lover” in mind. You all need to read this.

50 cms.

I want you all to extend your hands in front of you… with you thumbs facing each other and the hands fully opened. That is approximately, 50 cms.

50 cms was all the space Lara knew during the last year and a half of her life.

Lara

Lara is an old cocker. About a year and a half ago she was “rescued” by an animal lover, we will not disclose her name for reasons I will explain later.

That person took the dog home. Unfortunately when she got home she realized that her apartment was already occupied by 20 cats and that her neighbors created problems at her having another animal.  At that moment she found herself in a difficult situation. She didnt want to take Lara to a shelter because she knew dogs live in horrendous conditions in those hellish prison camps for dogs. She tried to find a home for the dog but she was unsuccessful. Nobody wants a old dog. She gave the dog to a garage but she was returned a couple of days later.

Her animal lover friends didn’t help her. Animal Organizations didnt’ return her emails, or calls.

Lara

So, at that moment that person took a decision that would forever mark Lara’s life, and hers. She and the dog went to street where her car was parked, opened the trunk of the car, moved some of the stuff around, made a little space and put the dog there. She then closed the trunk, leaving Lara inside the trunk, alone, in darkness.

She apparently intended to leave the dog for a night only… in the end, the torture lasted one and a half years. One and a half years…

550 days… and nights. Summer, winter, asphixiating hear, freezing cold. And loneliness…

The pictures you see here are the pictures from her first proper walk in 1,5 years, today, in the afternoon. For his amazing rescue story I would like to thank from the very bottom of my heart a wonderful Let’s Adopt! member, a great volunteer and a kind and compassionate human being. It was because of her tireless efforts Lara is saved today. She is the real hero here.

The biggest problem of the relationship between humans and animals is lack of empathy. Animal lovers pride themselves in their empathic abilities. Nothing further from the truth.

In the last two years, since the inception of Let’s Adopt!, we have seen some of the most horrendous torture being commited by “animal lovers” for love. We have seen dogs kept on bird cages during their entire lives, we have seen dogs chained to trees, closed in garages, tied to a hook on the floor, stuck in basement rooms for decades, we have seen animal lovers kill their rescues through improper care, we have seen animal lovers clean their consciences by dumping dogs by the hundreds on to a hidden corner of the Istanbul forest where someone lives with over 1.500 dogs, unneutered, lacking any kind of veterinary care.

Those people introduced themselves as “animal lovers”. I shake in fear whenever I receive an email starting with the following words: “I am an animal lover”…

Most of the times the content of that email is truly hairrising… complete and utter ignorance of the true nature of animals and their needs. In my entire life I have never met a more uneducated and illogical group of people. There are of course some exceptions, but onthe whole my perception of animal lovers just couldn’t be worse. And this is not a perception based on one-off situations…  Let’s Adopt! is forced to witness, and solve, those disasters, on a daily basis.

For the last few days rumors spread on Facebook about the existence of Lara, living alone inside the trunk of a car. For days nobody did anything. Then, yesterday, a couple of animal lovers went to check the situation by themselves, met the dog, the owner, saw the car, the living conditions, took some pictures AND… left the dog behind. And then they did what animal lovers tend to do around the world.. they go onto their computers, upload the pictures, and scream…scream, sign petitions and do nothing.

This morning I received a picture of an old dog and a story. At first I couldnt believe it but I asked one of our volunteers to check it out.

It was true.

Lara

We did what we always do. We rescued the dog. We took action. We saved a life.

We took the dog to our vet. Here is Lara’s diagnosis:
- Lara is severely dehydrated. Her skin is like sand paper. This happens because of the lack of sufficient hydration and lack of
vitamins. This happens when you live in total darkness for a year and a half.
- Lara is blind. Her condition has surely worsened by the lack of light during this period.
- Lara has cancer. What could have surely been treated had she been in a normal home went undetected. There are a number of tumors growing all around her body and she has carcinoma in her mamary region.
- We are conducting further analysis but we suspect cancer has metastasized.

The “animal lover” meant well.. but her lack of logic, combined with her irrational fears turned her into a torturer of the worst kind.

To be an “animal lover” is no excuse for this monstrosity. May God forgive her. May God forgive us all.

It is Friday night, Im just reading one of the nations largest newspapers.. an 80 year old woman has been “forgotten”, locked up, in
a car, by her grandson, under the sun in Erzurum.

Monsters… we are surrounded by monsters.

Kısa bir süre önce bir üyemiz, ve aynı zamanda çok çok sevgili bir arkadaşımız oturduğu bölgede apartmanın demir parmaklarına
zincirlenmiş bir köpek olduğunu fark etti. Ardından köpek hakkında bilgi edinip çocuğun doğru dürüst bir ev, sevilip bakılacağı bir yuva bulmak üzere yardım önerisinde bulundu. Köpeğin sahibi yardımı kabul etti yazılı olarak bunu belirtti ayrıca köpeğin ne yemekten hoşlandığını, nerede uyumayı sevdiğini de ekledi mektubuna.
Arkadaşımız köpeğe birkaç gün geçici olarak baktıktan sonra bir yuva bulmamız için bize teslim etti.

Buraya kadar herşey normal gelişti. Ama hemen sonra komedi başladı. İnsanlar bizi gecenin bir vakti arayarak köpeği kaçırdığımızı, ve hemen geri vermemiz gerektiğini söylediler. Öyle çok kişi işe karıştı ki sayısını bile aklımızda tutamaz olduk.

Sonunda arkadaşımızı “köpek kaçırmak” ve ne ne demek oluyorsa, “Kemerburgaz Mafyası”na teslim etmekle suçlayarak mahkemeye verdiler. Duyuruda hepimizin ismi geçiyordu. Görüşmelerimizi yaparak olayın detaylarını kendi bakış açımızla ilgililere ilettik. Yakınlarda, ülkemizin bilge ve adaletli savcıları bu duyuru hakkında kovuşturmaya gerek olmadığına ve konunun yargıya intikal etmeye değer bulunmadığına hükmettiler.

Bu, bizi nefret, ikilik ve utançlarının hedefi haline getiren o “insanlara”: Bizi mahkemeye verin! Hadi, gidip bizi dava edin! Bize
yönelttiğiniz tüm suçlamalarla ilgili olarak MASUMUZ ve inanıyoruz ki yaptıklarımız ve yöntemlerimiz doğru. Eğilmeyeceğiz, saklanmayacağız, korkmayacağız, tehditlerinize kanmayacağız, ve vazgeçmeyeceğiz.

Hayat kurtarmaya ve insanlara esin vermeye devam edeceğiz.

Justice

Dear Friends,

There are rumours, slander and insult and we stand up for what is right. They can throw mud at us, they can throw stones at us, but we stand up for what is right. They can make up stories, they can even make you believe in them, but we stand up for what is right. They threaten us, they try and scare us with their pathetic words, but we stand up for what is right. They can accuse us of wrong doings, illegal acts, unlawful conduct but we will still stand up for what is right.

Not long ago a group member and a dear dear friend noticed that in her neighbourhood there was a dog chained to the steel bars of an
apartment building. Then she found out about the dog and offered her help to find the poor thing a proper home where he’ll be loved and cared for. The owner agreed and gave our friend a written consent and list of what the dog likes to eat and how he’d like to sleep etc. Our friend, after fostering the dog for a couple of days, entrusted us to find a home for him.

Rescued

This is all very nice and normal until now. But then the comedy began.

People started calling us in the middle of the night telling us we had kidnapped the dog and he should be returned. There were so many of those involved that we lost count.

Finally, they  took our friend to court for “kidnapping” the dog and giving it to ‘Kemerburgaz Mafia’, whatever the hell that means. We
were all named in the case and gave our detailed versions of the events to the authorities. Recently, the wise and just prosecutors of
this country decided that the case had no merit and therefore, will not to be carried to the judge.

This is to all those “people” who chose us as the target of their hatred, bigotry and shame:  Sue us! Go ahead and sue us! We are
innocent of all the crimes you accuse us of and we believe that what we do and how we do it is right. We will not budge, we will not hide, we will not be afraid, we will not give in to threats, we will not give up.

We will continue to save lives and inspire people.

Justice in our country is as perfect and as untainted as it gets. We have been witnessing this first hand. We are in awe of our solemn and serious men of justice who look into the eyes of the people and are able to tell in an instant who is innocent and who isn’t.

There are now charges being pressed for those who have been harassing us for years. Many many people have finally taken it up in their hands to seek justice against those who have tried to humiliate us publicly, although they found no public to listen to their lunacy. We ask these “people”, will you be able to look at your prosecutor in the eye and say “I haven’t done it…”?

There is JUSTICE in this country.

Lucy bir Ankara kedisi… dünyanın her yerinde son derece pahalı bir kedi ancak Türkiye’de onu nerede isterseniz bulabilirsiniz, sokaklarda, arabaların altında, çop kutularının içinde…

Lucy birkaç hafta önce kurtarıldı. Korkunç bir durumdaydı. Özellikle ağzı inanılmayacak durumdaydı. Öyle kötüydü ki durumu HER BİR DİŞİNİçektirmek zorunda kaldık. Bu da size ders olsun. Bu kedi hayatı boyunca “mam” yedi. Sonuçlarını resimlerde görebilirsiniz.

Neyse. Yemek artık sorun değil çün¨ü yeni sahibi Lucy’yi çiğ et, balık ve yumurtayla besleyecek. Görüldüğü üzere bu kedinin tekrar ticari mamalara dönmesine izin veremeyiz.

Lucy’nin acilen bir yuvaya ihtiyacı var. Dahası, Lucy evin tek kedisi olmak zorunda. Lucy’de FIV var. FIV sadece seks (ki Lucy kışırlaştırıldı) ve kan yoluyla geçen bir hastalık. Lucy is an Angora Cat… extremely priced anywhere in the world, in Turkey you find them everywhere, in the streets, under the cars,
inside garbage cans…

Lucy was rescued a couple of weeks ago. She was found in an absolutely terrible state. Her mouth was in the worst condition you can imagine.

It was bad that we had to extract EACH AND EVERYONE OF HER TEETH.

So this is a lesson for you. This dog ate commercial food all her life. The result is what you see in this picture.

Anyway, diet is not a problem.. The adoptant will feed Lucy raw meat, fish, egs, all of it part of the Raw diet. For obvious and logical
reasons we cannot have this cat be fed with commercial garbage again.

Lucy needs an urgent home. Furthermore, she needs a home where she will be the only cat. Lucy has FIV… FIV is only contagious through sex (no problem as she is neutered) or through blood. Which means that in order to minimise risk of infection we can only place her in a home where she is the only cat (the family MUST have another animal, that is, a dog) or, where there is another cat with FIV.

This is a very special case and we need your help to spread it as much as possible.

Avrupa Birligi (AB) uyesi olmayan bir ulkeden, evcil hayvanimi getirmek istiyorum.  Giris prosedurleri nelerdir?

1 Ekim 2004 tarihinde, Avrupa Birligi evcil hayvanlarin Birlik sinirlari icine girisini duzenleyen yeni hayvan sagligi duzenlemeleri kabul etmistir.. Bu duzenlemelerin temel amaci, kuduz hastaliginin Birlik icine girisini ve yayilmasini onlemektir.  AB uyesi olmayan ucuncu bir ulkeden getirilecek bir evcil hayvanin, sorunsuz bir bicimde giris islemlerini yapabilmesi icin, asagidaki hususlara dikkat edilmelidir:

.- sorunsuz bir bicimde okutulabilen mikrocip (2 Temmuz 2011 tarihine kadar okutulabilir dovme de mikrocip yerine gecebilmektedir)

- eksiksiz bir bicimde uygulanmis kuduz asisi

- kuduz asisinin uygulandigini gosterir kamu gorevlisi veterinerden alinmis karne; bu karneye mikrocip veya dovme numarasi da islenmis olmalidir. Bunun yanisira, asi karneleri ve bazi durumlarda ayrintili kan testi sonuclari da gerekmektedir.

Eger kuduz vakalarinin goruldugu veya kuduz gorulme riskinin henuz tespit edilmemis oldugu Turkiye, Misir, Fas, Tunus, Thailand veya Hindistan gibi ucuncu ulkelere seyahat ediyorsaniz;

- ayrilmadan once, ilgili ulkedeki AB-onayli bir labaratuarda kan testi (kuduz antikor testi) yaptirmalisiniz
- Almanya’ya giris yapmadan once, kan testinin yapildigi tarihte baslayan 3 aylik bekleme suresinin tamamlanmasi gerekmektedir.

Gerek asi sonrasi, gerekse kan testi sonrasi bekleme surelerinin tamamlanabilmesi icin, hayvan salgin hastaliklarinin onlenmesi yonetmeliginde de ongoruldugu uzere, bu ulkelerden getirilecek kopek, kedi ve gelinciklerin en az 7 aylik olmalari gerekmektedir.

Routes

- bu duzenlemeler, sahipsiz hayvanlar icin de gecerlidir (ornegin bir tatil beldesinde, kumsalda, otelde bulunmus bir kedi ya da kopek gibi)
- 5′ten fazla hayvan getirilemez.

Eger getirilen hayvan yukaridaki kosullari karsilamiyorsa, AB giris noktalarinda gorevli veterinerler asagidaki eylemlerden birini uygulayacaklardir;

- hayvan, geldigi ulkeye geri yollanacaktir (masraflar, hayvani getiren kisi tarafindan karsilanacaktir)
- hayvan birkac ay boyunca karantinaya alinacaktir
- bazi durumlarda, hayvanin oldurulmesi gerekebilecektir.

Kopek getiren kisilerin dikkat etmesi gereken ayri bir husus da, tehlikeli kopeklerin ulkeye getirilisi ile ilgili kisitlamalardir. Bu kisitlamalar kapsaminda, Almanya’da pitbull terrier, American staffordshire terrier, bull terrier, ve bu kopeklerin melezlerinin getirilmesi yasaktir. Belirtilen bu cinslerin yanisira, bazi bolgelerde ek kisitlamalar da olabilir.

Eger hayvan sahibi gerekli belgelere sahipse (irk belgesi, asi karnesi, davranis testi sonuclari), asagidaki durumlardaki hayvanlari, tehlikeli kopekler ile ilgili uygulanan kisitlamalardan muaftir.
Buradaki amac, gumruk islemlerinde olusabilecek buyuk zorluklari engellemektir.

1. Almanya’da 4 haftadan az kalacak kisiler tarafindan getirilen tehlikeli kopekler (temel olarak turist trafigi ile ilgilidir)
2. ilk cikis noktasi Almanya olan, ve bir baska ulkeden Almanya’da yeniden giris yapan tehlikeli kopekler
3. engelli kisilere yardim eden kopekler
1. dangerous dogs brought in by persons who are only staying in Germany for up to four weeks (this primarily applies to tourist traffic),
2. dangerous dogs originally from Germany which are being re-imported from abroad,
3. service dogs and companion dogs for handicapped people,

Dog Air

I would like to bring a pet (dog, cat or ferret) with me from a non-EC country. What do I have to take into account on entry?

New animal-health regulations for pets (dogs, cats and ferrets) were introduced in the European Community on 1 October 2004. The new regulations aim to prevent the introduction and spread of rabies.
To ensure that there are no problems on entry, every pet that comes from a third country and is imported into the EC must be  clearly identifiable by microchip (or a readable tattoo as a transitional arrangement until 2 July 2011),
properly vaccinated against rabies, accompanied by an veterinary inspector’s certificate in which the microchip or tattoo number has been entered. In addition, vaccination certificates and in some cases blood-test details must be carried.

If you are travelling to a third country where rabies occurs or where the epidemic status is unknown, e.g. Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Thailand or India, a blood test (rabies antibody test) must be carried out before leaving in an EC-approved laboratory in the respective country, a three-month waiting period must be observed from the date of the blood test until entry into Germany.

Because of all the waiting periods that have to be observed (for the vaccination and blood test), dogs, cats and ferrets from these countries must be at least seven months old in order to meet the entry conditions as prescribed by the laws on animal epidemics.
It must also be borne in mind that:
these regulations also apply to bringing in found (stray) animals (e.g. beach dogs/hotel cats), no more than five animals may be brought in.

If animals are imported in violation of the above-mentioned conditions, it is likely that the veterinary inspector at the first EC frontier will either return them to the country of origin at the expense of the person bringing in the animal,
put the animal into quarantine for several months, or order the animal to be killed under certain conditions.

Further information about regulations on animal epidemics is available from your vet, the responsible veterinary inspector and the website of the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture on the subject of “Travelling with pets”.

When importing dogs, the law on the restriction of the introduction or importing of dangerous dogs into the country must be observed.
This law bans the introduction or importation into Germany of pit-bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, bull terriers and hybrids resulting from interbreeding or crossbreeding these breeds with other dogs. The ban also applies to other breeds that are considered dangerous according to the regional regulations that apply in the Land in Germany where they are to be permanently kept. Further information is available from the local Ordnungsamt (town clerk’s office).
To avoid excessive difficulties in passenger traffic, the following dogs are exempted from the import and introduction ban:
dangerous dogs brought in by persons who are only staying in Germany for up to four weeks (this primarily applies to tourist traffic), dangerous dogs originally from Germany which are being re-imported from abroad, service dogs and companion dogs for handicapped people,

if the dog’s owner has the documents required for checking the animals (e.g. pedigree, vaccination certificate, Wesenstestbescheinigung (certificate documenting a test of the dog’s temperament/character), other relevant documents from the responsible Ordnungsamt (town clerk’s office)).

The usual customs regulations on imports in passenger traffic must also be observed in addition to the above regulations.

Sivas Kangal yerel bir ırktır, Türkiye’nin milli ırkıdır ve bazılarına göre milli bir hazinedir. Orjinalinde çiftlik hayvanlarını korumaları için kullanılan bu köpeklerin yetişkin ağırlıkları 64 kg’mı (120 pounds) aşabilir.

Bu köpek ırkı sıklıkla çoban köpeği olarak anılsa da aslında gütmek yerine sürü ile yaşaması ve kurt, çakal ve ayılara karşı bekçilik yapması için yetiştirilir. Türk Kangal köpeğinin koruyuculuğu ve küçük çocuklara yönelik yumuşak ve nazik tavrı, sürüsünü ekstrem bir adanma ile gözleyen bu köpeğin aynı zamanda aileler için muhafız bir köpek olarak da popülerliğinin artmasına sebep olmuştur.

Türkiye’nin doğusunda koyun yetiştiriciliği azalmaya başladığından safkan Kangallar gittikçe daha değerli hale gelip yüksek ücretlerle satılmaya başlanmıştır. Pek çok hayvan Kangal Festivali esnasında köylerden getirtilip ödül için rekabete sokulmaktadırlar. Kangallar kendi vatanlarında, kurt öldürebilen tek köpek türü olarak tanınmaktadırlar. Boyutlarına ve bağımsız doğalarına rağmen pek şehir ortamına getirilmiş pek çok kangal terk edilmişti. Bugün bu ırk Türkiye’nin milli mirasının bir parçası olarak Türk hükümeti tarafından koruma altına alınmıştır. Kangalların Türk vatandaşı olmayan kişilere ihracatı yasal hale getirilmektedir. Devlet sponsorluğunda Kangal ve Ulas’ta üretim merkezleri kurulmuştur. Buralarda lokasyona bakmaksızın her bir köpeğin sağlık, gelişim ve üretim kayıtları bulunmaktadır.

Acı ve üzücü gerçek ise şöyle…

Türkiye’nin milli hazinesi olan bu hayvan dünyada en çok istismar edilen hayvanlar arasında. Zavallı hayvanlar şehirlere getiriliyor ve açıkça köpek sahibi olmaması gereken kişiler tarafından bekçi köpeği olarak bir makineye veya ağaca zincirli olarak tutuluyorlar. Çoğu Kangal çöp, ekmek ve mısın karışımı ile besleniyor….heybetli görüntüleri ise bu hayvanların inanılmaz genetik yapılarının mirası.

Kangalların bağımsız bir doğaları olmasına rağmen sahiplerine karşı olağanüstü saygıları ve adanmışlıkları onları bu ülkenin en istismar edilen hayvanlarından biri haline getiriyor. Kulakları makasla kesiliyor, zincire vuruluyor, pitbullarla dövüştürülüyorlar…temelde en barbar davranışların mağdurları oluyorlar…ve hala sahiplerini seviyorlar…

Anatoli bir Kangal…bir milli hazine. 8 aylık, genç, güçlü… ırkının mükemmel bir örneği.

Bu olağanüstü hayvan için bir sahip arıyoruz…Ama herhangi bir sahip değil.

Anatoli geniş alandan hoşlanıyor…şehir geliştirme kapsamındaki bir küçük bahçeden bahsetmiyoruz…arazi bir alandan bahsediyoruz. Anatoli’nin sahibinin, Anatoli’nin mensubu olduğu ırkın ihtiyaç duyduğu düzeyde özgürlük ve hareketliliğe sahip olabileceği geniş bir arazisi olacak.

Anatoli başka köpeklerle beraber yaşayacak.

Anatoli bir evin içinde uyuyacak. Bu olmazsa olmaz bir şarttır. Bu şarttan ödün vermeyeceğiz. Bu Kangal kışın donmayacak.

The Sivas Kangal Dog is a breed of domestic dog, and is the national breed of Turkey, to some, a national treasure. This dog, which can weigh in excess of 120 pounds (64 kg) full-grown, was originally used as a Livestock guardian dog.
The breed is often referred to as a sheep dog, but it does not herd its charges. Instead, it is developed to live with the flock and act as a livestock guardian dog, fending off wolves, bears and jackals.The Turkish Kangal Dog’s protectiveness and gentleness with small children and animals has led to its growing popularity as a guardian for families as well, as it watches members of its flock with extreme devotion.
As the sheep industry continues to decline in eastern Turkey, purebred Kangals of the classic type are becoming increasingly prized, and sell for high prices. Many animals are brought from the villages to compete for prizes during the annual Kangal Festival. In their homeland, kangals are considered the only dogs capable of killing wolves.
Due to their size and independent nature, many dogs imported to urban settings were abandoned. Today, the kangal is protected by the Turkish government as part of Turkey’s national heritage, making it now illegal to export Turkish Kangals to non-Turkish nationals. Government sponsored breeding centres have been established at Kangal town and Ulas, where the breeding, development and health records of every dog are charted, regardless of location.

Now.. here comes the hard and sad truth..
The national treasure of Turkey is one of the most abused animals in the world. The poor animals that are brought into cities are usually kept chained to a tree or to a piece of machinery as most of them are kept as guard dogs by people who simply, should not have a dog.
Most Kangals are fed a mixture of garbage, bread and corn.. their imposing presence is a testament to the amazing genetics of this animal. Because Kangals have an independent nature but great respect and devotion for their owners Kangals are some of the most abused animals in this country. Their ears are cut with scissors, they are hit with chains, they are made to fight against pitbulls.. basically, they are the recipients of the most barbaric behaviour… and still they love their owners… Anatoli is a Kangal.. a national treasure. He is 8 months old, a young, strong, perfect example of its breed.
We are looking for an owner for this unbelieveble animal.. but not ANY kind of owner.
Anatoli will enjoy a large space.. we are not talking a small garden in some city development.. we are talking about acres of land. Anatoli’s owners will have a large property where the dog will enjoy the level of freedom and activity his breed requires.
Anatoli will live with other dogs.
Anatoli will sleep inside a home. Thats a conditio-sine quanon. We wont compromise. This Kangal will not freeze in winter.
In short… we are looking for the perfect home for this dog. If you are that perfect home or you know someone who would accept to have this incredible dog under our conditions please get in touch with us.

Evcil hayvanlarımız evrim tarafından etobur yapılmışlardır.

İnsan yapımı hiçbir beslenme taze, doğal, işlenmemiş yemekle karşılaştırılamaz. Doğal ve işlenmemiş beslenmenin birçok alanda faydaları vardır; insanlar böyle bir beslenme şekline sahip olan hayvanlarıyla ilgili farklı olumlu etkiler rapor etmişlerdir. En basit fakat en belirgin gelişmelerden biri diş sağlığıdır. Doğal, çiğ etli kemikleri çiğnemek dişleri, fırçalayıp bir de üzerine diş ipi kullanmaktan daha fazla temizler. Çiğ beslenmeye geçen hayvanların sahipleri tüylerindeki değişikliğe çok şaşırır. Daha az yıkamak gerekir, daha güzel kokarlar, yumuşak ve gür tüyleri olur. Çiğ beslenmeye başlamadan önce derisi ve tüyleri korkunç durumda olan kedi ve köpeklerin tüyleri bu beslenme düzenine geçişle birlikte çıkmaya başlar, uzar; ciltlerindeki kronik yaralar ve enfeksiyonlar iyileşir.

Huy ve tutum değişiklikleri de çiğ beslenmeye geçiş için başka bir nedendir. Köpeklerde uygunsuz beslenme hiperaktiviteye, odaklanma zorluklarına ve başka davranışsal problemlere neden olur.
